    I mean a mouse!!

My new hotel room in Naypyitaw is quite nice. But there's a little brown mouse that's running around and making a noise rustling in the rubbish bin.

    I called the hotel reception:

"Hi, there's a mouse in my room"

    "A mouse?"

    "Yes"

    "A little brown mouse?"

    "Why yes, that's right!"

    "OK we come, no problem"

"Hey thanks" (good service at this hotel...)

5 minutes later, there is a knock at my door. I open it to find a young guy from reception.

In his hand he has a little brown computer mouse...

Groping women when you're old is fine - everyone thinks you're senile

Fark! In an effort to get the mouse out of the room, I left the terrace door open. But a nasty fly came in. So I sprayed the damn thing to kill it. Problem was, I sprayed too near the smoke detector and set the fire alarm off! Everyone is running around and no one knows how to switch it off.... Oops!

Major event - they tried to switch off the fire alarm by rebooting the power supply to the whole hotel. No luck, because the fire alarm is on back-up batteries.

Finally, some senior staff member came to my room, took away my fly spray to make a report, and then authorised to switch off the alarm, all the time grovelling apologies to me.

Actually, it is reassuring that they have a working fire system in place

    Now where is that fly?

OK, here is my new accommodation for years to come, (or until I get sacked from my job...). Usual shitty camera quality from my old mobile phone. I'm standing on the bed to take the photo.

    I mean a mouse!!-room1-jpg

On the left side of the room are 2 projects in progress. The 2 little tables are shown in the Space thread - this is the integration and test facility for the micro-satellite that I've designed and will soon start to integrate.

Behind that is dedicated to my 'teachersimon.org' one-man-band charity work, where I support orphanage schools and other poor school students with English and Myanmar language text-books, school-books and letter-writing practice books etc. There are 20 sets of books on the floor, destined for 20 different schools in remote areas of Chin and Kachin States, in the north of Myanmar. Many of these schools are too remote for me to easily visit, or the region is off-limits to nasty foreigners, due to ethnic fighting. But I can send these books by public bus to the nearest town to the school, and then the local teacher or carers will come and collect them. I am currently printing off A3 vocabulary picture posters for these school sets - you can see my printer doing its work in the next photo of the right side of my room.

    I mean a mouse!!-room2-jpg

The printer is near the door and green box. Then there is my 'kitchen', where the fcuking mouse lives, and a fridge in the cupboard below.

Finally, there is my third project - XZ2A, which is the one and only amateur radio station in Myanmar. I have moaned in previous threads about not getting a ham licence after 6 years of effort. Well, after 6.01 years of effort, the government relented! My ham transceiver is sitting on the desk, next to my laptop which is running digital mode software (basically like SMS via the radio). With this set-up, I can contact radio hams all over the world, typically about 100 different hams every evening.

There is a very good reason why I do my ham hobby. Since I am the sole radio ham in Myanmar, every ham on the planet wants to contact me! It is chaotic at times. But I have tied my radio ham profile page up with my charity work, see https://www.qrz.com/db/XZ2A and this means that I get some small financial donations from radio hams, all of which helps to buy the school-books.

Out of view is my bed, the wardrobe and decent bathroom.

What seems to be lacking in this accommodation is a slapper, preferably in hot-pants and willing to engage in the most perverse forms of sexual titilation.

I could ask room-service if they can provide a slapper. But I'm worried that they might send around some guy to physically hit me....

Back to the saga of the mouse:

After the hotel staff understood that I meant a real mouse, not one with a USB plug, they sent round a maid and a man wearing a 'Pest Control' T-shirt. This being a Buddhist country, he didn't come armed with a cricket bat, but with a nice pair of woolly gloves. Then he and the maid spent 30 minutes chasing this little mouse round the room while I sat on the bed and laughed at them.

Today, I went to the supermarket but unsurprisingly, did not find any mouse traps. I'd go and buy one from a Muslim shop but .. er ... there don't seem to be any Muzzies about!

So I need a cunning plan - to catch this little mouse myself.

To be honest, I don't want to kill it, but it is driving me crazy at night with its FCUKING RUSTLING NOISE as it noses around my papers in the room.

I need to manufacture a live mouse trap.

Since I have just designed a micro-satellite, I'm sure that a live mouse trap is not beyond my capabilities.

I shall examine the materials in my room, and see what I can construct....

Are you going to do a flightradar24 beacon as well like you did before?

    No for 2 reasons:

    1) The old flightradar24 receiver is still at my previous Phuket abode, which I had to rapidly vacate after the problem with the drug dealers. I had no time to climb my radio mast to retrieve that receiver and the one for VHF marine traffic. So flightradar24 is a bit 'pissed' at me for not returning their receiver.

    2) There is very little traffic from Naypyitaw airport (only Yangon has decent flight numbers). A receiver in Naypyitaw would certainly receive air-traffic signals from Yangon, but I think the military over here might get a lot more 'pissed' at me than flightradar24, if I put their flight data on the internet.....

There are some good mouse traps on youtube using a bucket and a tube across the top. Bait on tube, mouse moves along tube, which rotates the mouse into the bucket. Very simple, not a killer and you can keep mouse as pet or feed to the local cat...

I have temporarily left the mouse to forage in safety, as I have taken myself off for a motorbike tour to Ngalapi Beach and beautiful beaches south of there. Just did a 6 hour ride from Naypyitaw to Pyay, fcuking hot and dusty, not much fun.

If it is a touristy (for locals) place there will be a house of ill repute somewhere. You are not trying hard enough.

Ride to the Hilton and ask the concierge or to the golf course. Hang out at the Happy Night bar?
