Scottish Youtuber guilty of hate speech for teaching dog 'Nazi salute'

I'm assuming there is more to this story than just this (well I hope there is), but I loved the last line.

March 21 (UPI) -- A Scottish court found a Youtuber guilty of hate speech after he taught his dog to mimic a Nazi salute when he said "gas the Jews" and "Sieg Heil."
Sheriff Derek O'Carroll found Mark Meecham, 30, guilty of a charge under the Communications Act for posting the video, which was found to be "anti-semitic and racist in nature" and aggravated by religious prejudice, the BBC reported.

"In my view it is a reasonable conclusion that the video is grossly offensive," O'Carroll said. "The description of the video as humorous is no magic wand. This court has taken the freedom of expression into consideration. But the right to freedom of expression also comes with responsibility."
Meecham, who has denied any wrongdoing, will be sentenced on April 23.
The Scottish Youtube personality posted the video in 2016 and was arrested last year. In the video, Meecham said he wanted to play a prank on his girlfriend by teaching her pug a Nazi salute.
"My girlfriend is always ranting and raving about how cute and adorable her wee dog is so I thought I would turn him into the least cute thing I could think of which is a Nazi," Meecham said in the video.
The video goes on to show brief clips of Meecham training the dog, with little success. Eventually, the dog raises its paw to its chest level when Meecham says, "Sieg Heil."
After the verdict, Meecham, who goes by the moniker "Count Dankula" online, found support from popular comedians, including Rickey Gervais and Jim Norton.
"A man has been convicted in a UK court of making a joke that was deemed 'grossly offensive,'" Gervais tweeted. "If you don't believe in a person's right to say things that you might find "grossly offensive", then you don't believe in Freedom of Speech."
"If the courts really wanted to punish @CountDankulaTV, they'd book his dog on a [United Airlines] flight," Norton said.

He’ll appeal and the verdict will be overturned. At least it better be or we’re all in trouble.

More or less every dog can do the "shake Hands' thing. They almost do it naturally.

Stupid waste of taxpayers money as usual.

I think it was the 33 "Gas the Jews" in the video that led to the conviction, not the fucking puppy.

The fact that he was accompanied to court by Tommy Robinson tells you where he stands politically...it was a supposed joke with very sinister undertones

Better get Basil Fawlty locked up then. That shit is almost as idiotic as all of the unrelenting PC idiocy in the US.

Do you have any concrete facts on his relationship with TR?

From the photos it looks like the media hungry TR accosted him outside the court as he was leaving, which is a far cry from what you are trying to infer:

He is also supported by David Baddiel(Jewish) & Ricky Gervais, so what does this tell us where he stands politically?

Have you watched the video he uploaded?

He said he wasn't a racist and made the video to annoy his gf who was always saying how cute the dog was, he said a nazi was the polar opposite of cute hence the joke, would a racist call his dog " Buddha"?

And finally, if you need any further proof he is not an EDL racist you can look no further than the comments made by court officials: "He is a highly intelligent and articulate individual, we are not dealing with some callow youth", I doubt those words have ever been used to describe someone who politically identifies with the EDL.

If you want to view the YouTube production which is the center of this story, then type “Nazi Dog” in youtube search. It’s a tedious clip so probably would only have interested the owner of the small dog. Fairly dumb, hate speech seems a bit of a stretch.
