Yes had overlooked that and as CJ notes these firms like Nestle are sharks
I cannot recall growing up in the 50s ever ever buying water, nor seeing anyone else do it.
Probably first saw in 1960s in Spain or France I learned poor folks paid as tap water unsafe etc
Yet on my annual trip around Europe free water is rare esp Airports where they tae your water and charge 100 baht , 3 quid 5 euros in a vending machine etc. I was in Pearson Int in toront where spring water from Fiji , yes friggion Fiji was sold at C$15 around 400 baht before check in !!! This was at least 4 years ago
Carrot and stick we need incentives for kids to have clean tap water , try and develop containers as versatile as plastic but can be re used or recycled.Interestingly seems less trash in cool well educated Lutheran countries, compare Finland to Ireland or Denamrk to here, Germany to Spain etc
Fortunately with such low incomes in LOS an "uncorrupt' regime could easily levy a few satangs and have the desired effect.
More I think about it it is a very important issue for all life forms ,
2 greens due once reloaded CJ
You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to crackerjack101 again.
Just got back from a shop with wife.
With this issue in mind I contrasted teh ancient mom and pop stioes here with their rice sacks, bill hooks and stuff in cardboard box and hanging from the wall in a ramshackle display like my grans shop.Lotus and 7-11 now three here are wiping out these places and not sure kids will want to slave in working in
"Open ALl Hours type stores"
Then I looked at the 7/11 which like all modern stores is a mass of plastic not just the product , then the multi matrial blister pack , you know that really ridiculously tough plastic you tear at your risk or need a blade , glued to a card printed pack often with metal , bubble wrap/foams etc foils and a of course a staple to tread on,
According to aUK envronmental Officer I met this mixed waste is hard and therefore expensive to recycle
How did it come to this ?, well the makers and vendors are not responsible for the recycle, i.e the total cost.
Not sure Thailand is any worse per capita for despite the endless food in bags with ellastic the disposable income and level of cnsumption I 'd guess is still much less here in the sticks than EU or US Oz etc but still noticeably higher than 20 years ago when fewer Thais had Cars, new homes with Aircon and free spending money, 1997 austerity was ok if you didnt' lose your investments had a job
Pure rain water will do.
Problem resolved.
The water wars, and strategic schemes, became apparent a generation ago and continue to this day - quite accepted.
Pawns. Per usual.
It's not just the fish that are affected, the marine mammals & birds who feed from the sea are affected too. In the docu "A plastic ocean" (I don't know if it's the same vid that has been posted - can't watch, slow net) - the digestive tracts of those mammals and birds were full of micro and macro plastics.
stop thinking like a Thai... Agriculture takes plenty of water. I grew up on tap water in Saudi Arabia and Marin county. The answer is much easier in many developed countries. Drink the tap water..... Come on bro, you cant always be the Buddah or Mahatma...
Go after the advertisers for the bottled water companies..
h
Just had some nestle water.
Yolo
...we prefer the chewy plastic strands in Crystal water...
Absolutely always do at what we call down our way the SEVEN
Is it any better in rich clean eco West Germany Strolls?
I remember bottle deposits in Scandanavia .It doesn't have to be big enough that kids will collect here 4-7 baht per bottle?
I was in Harlingen Friesland near Emden last year and everything spotless, lots of Dutch and German sailing fans but little plastic or trash
Anyone care to shed some light on why the air quality in Vientiane is at 175. Is it due to burning the rice fields this time of year.
Also no info on southern Laos. I've heard talk by the farmers stating that the winds out of China cause a type of unhealthy rain and actually hurts the plants sometimes.
Not sure if rain water is the best option Jeff. One doctor I knew (passed on now) would not trust even the bottled water in Laos and he would basically boil it and recondense it. I'm not certain that is good for you either.
Any thoughts on the air quality will be appreciated as I honestly have never been in the area during this time of year. It appears worse than Bangkok in VTE and Chiang Mai. How is southern Laos this time of year and in summer?
Thanks in advance for any valid imput.
Getting back to water so I don't offended some seemingly easily agitated members. Link below about water.
20 Benefits and Dangers of Drinking Distilled Water Regularly
The interesting question should be, just how long have they really had all this information?
I'm sure the multinational plastic water suppliers, do there own testing.
Distilled water is not good for you. As has been said the plastic comes from the bottle manufacturing/water filtration process. If one is really worried that one is not drinking mountain stream water that beavers piss in, then Brita type filter using collected rain water is the way to go. Well water might be just as good. Bangkok water needs to "rest" for a while in an open container to let the chlorine gas off or put through said Brita filter.
Mammals have been drinking whatever is available for eons.
Bottled water is the result of 7-Eleven on every corner. Otherwise where would one get it from? Another example of marketing over intelligence. Do people still rinse and repeat?
If still uncertain blame it on bucket head. It is his plastic?
PS I believe many rural households have the late kings triple stage cascading gravel/sand filters to filter rainwater. Then they boil.
Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?
I apologize if any offence was caused. unless it was intended.
You people, you think I know feck nothing; I tell you: I know feck all
Those who cannot change their mind, cannot change anything.
Oddly enough I think I can smell what you've been smoking.
No joke, not only is the production of plastic wicked but the removal of such much worse in places that don't know how or are not willing to take the measures to repurpose the used products. To sort and melt down they, the polymers could be reused repeatedly. Unfortunately society is just now coming to terms with that.
I saw this in Asia where Yogi Bear isn't there along with wWoodsy Owl ,You know give a hoot don't pollute.
Sadly folks are left to deal with this stuff on their own in many places. The stench of smoldering plastics is no joke. Maybe I answered my own question in that the air quality of breathing Nylon,Celcon or Polypropylene is just not good.
Celcon over 400F produces what is known as tear gas.
So yes I must agree with the op, we really f'd the place up.
