Where do you choose to live and why?

I've lived in Lanna Lalaland for the terminally brainless just S of the Golden Triangle for yonks .I do like Mae Sariang and Nan for similar reasons but they are more remote.

I travelled the world and liked it.If I wasn't here I'd probably live on the Bay of Biscay.

I grew up in country ,worked in large cities but don't need cities anymore. The net Amazon and having car, Air Asia means can have all the things I need.

I believe we've members in or from all continents

I live in the Philippines - have for the past 21 years. I live in Batangas Province - about 50 miles south of Manila. Quiet, not too big a town, but has everything I need.

David, if I could ... a little Poetic License?

Where could I live and why?

Have travelled a fair bit of the world (but never Africa, nor Sth America).

    In no particular order ...

    Galway in Ireland,
Berlin in Germany (other places as well)
Almost anywhere in the Netherlands ... just really like the Dutch.
London* ... but that was 2 decades ago, apparently it's changed a lot.
    Boulder/San Diego in the USA
    Odessa in the Ukraine

... but, back to your original question ... the Tent is pitched in Australia ATM

I still have a decade or two of working life left, should I choose to and the
education of the rugrats in the West.

    * with CCC ... he's building a quest bedroom as we speak.
Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago ...

Live in Northern Thailand. Nice area, wonderful people, great roads, nice weather and has all I need within 5 to 20 minutes of our place. If I want, a easy 1hr drive can get me to congestion and loads of tourists in CM.

I have traveled a great bit. If I was going to pick another location it would be on a well equipped houseboat in a private Marina in Northern California(Lake Shasta/ Lake Trinity).

In January 2009 I was on my way to NZ. Never got there.

Travelled a lot courtesy of HM Queen. Lived in Germany for 10 years and loved it.
Still not sure about Asia even after all this time.

Lazy lets me go with the flow. Today Cambodia, tomorrow Sumatra.

    Still exploring people and places.

Enjoyed Jamaica, Cyprus, Kenya and Hong Kong but they are much different these days.

I guess it’s wherever I lay my hat.

I currently live and work in Naypyidaw, Myanmar. Been working in Myanmar (Yangon, Mandalay and Naypyidaw) on and off since 2012, (with breaks around 2014 in Laos and Thailand).

I lived in Thailand from 2002 - 2012, first because I was married to a Thai woman, and second because we had business in Phuket (small hotel). Both marriages turned out to be millstones around my neck (for a whole host of reasons that have been chronicled before), and I am happy to have been a bachelor boy since about 2013.

Myanmar is not my preferred place to live, too many issues with internet, electricity, sanitation, lack of shops, postal system, police/army surveillance (in Naypyidaw) etc. I prefer the laid back lifestyle and nature of Laos. But Myanmar offers a teaching salary that's much higher than Thailand (3x) and Laos (2x), and so I'm here for now, saving money in the bank.

Having lived in Myanmar for a few years, I've adapted to the day-to-day problems. I moved from a job in Mandalay to live in Naypyidaw because this new city has few cars, no traffic jams, clean air, safe cycling etc.

There is (as yet) no retirement visa in Myanmar. So I imagine that when I retire, I'll move to Laos (no retirement visa there either, but easy to pay immigration to get a visa if you're not a druggie/criminal/pedo/loony).

I'm spending a couple of days relaxing at Inle Lake right now. My peace was disturbed today by some crazy Western hiker accosting me - oh sorry! It was Mandaloopy - he had the same idea as me to come relax at Inle Lake.

Would I go back to Thailand after Myanmar? Perhaps somewhere like Nong Khai (I lived there briefly around 2007 with mad ex #2). But Phuket again? Never.

You have given out too much Reputation in the last 24 hours, try again later.

Great answer CJ but your house and area is great anyway.

Greened him for ya david. I ended up where I am cuz she said so as well but I'm quite pleased with her choice. Started out my life on a farm and after years of working all over the world have come full circle. Back on the farm and loving it.

Nothing wrong with a pure and rural existence.
    Cheers, Nort...
