Fighting A big Corporation - And Winning.

I've been fighting my health insurance provider for months over several denied claims for my daughter's medical treatment, which they were adamant they weren't paying. I won! Check for $1500 came in today. Not a huge amount, but nice to beat the bastards for once.

Persitance rooted in knowing you're right will usually pay off. I've won against an insurance company (not my own, but the person who hit me's), Auckland City several times, and an auction house, NZ's biggest.
Taking things to the Ombudsman often helps.
When you're right, you're right, and that's all there is to it.
Big entities will naturally fight (right or wrong), betting on the small guy caving in. But once it's obvious he's not going to cave, it's cheaper for them to fold than to have staff dealing with it all the time.

^^yep, BLD is right. "Matigas ang ulo" means hard-headed, but it can also have a negative connotation (like if a child is hard-headed & doesn't listen to the parents). There's also "matigas ang loob" or strong insides/ strong willed.

    Kudos on your persistence!

Good on ya DK. Feels good to beat the "man". Went through a simuliar thing last August with a US gov bureaucracy. Took months but persistance won the day.

    Kudos, Davis!!
    Continue with the good fight.

Or even better yet, a much better form of resistance: refuse to do business with usual corporate bastards.
If a greater percentage of the populations didn't play the game that they're conditioned to imbibe, imagine what could be.
Find an alternative to the controlling and suppressive dominant paradigm.

    Be well, mate.

I have beaten the Aust govt when they resumed land for a commercial development, got twice what they offered originally for my land after taking them to court
Have currently supplied the information about a corrupt lawyer to the Aust authorities , she is going to court next month to plead on stealing from clients estates and will definitely be going to prison, she really thought she could get away with the criminal offenses because she has a law degree
Gave up on a travel insurance came for 41K baht with suresave travel insurance because i would have had to return to Aust to win the case and collect the payment
I informed the chain of travel agents about suresave refusing my claim and they stopped using them for their travel insurance so they have missed out big time anyway

If you know you are in the right and don't give up on your claim you will win every time even if it takes years, govt, big business and law firms think they can drag things out and you will give up on any claim, which a lot of people end up doing

Well done, Davis, well done Peter ^, and well done to all who have beaten the corporate bar stewards - especially insurance companies.

Yep. Insurance companies are the worst. Followed by credit card companies, of which American Express is the shittiest.

Since the thread will probably taper off now, perhaps members could post their stories of sticking it to the man?

The only time you should use a credit card is when you have to, renting a vehicle from a large international company is a good example, they will only except credit card payment, or if it saves you time and hassles by using it
Them only if you pay of the entire amount by the due date,i use direct debit from my savings account so i never pay any interest and have no annual fees on my credit card either
If you intend to buy something on hire purchase get a quote and work out the interest you are going to pay my adding up all the payments deducting the amount borrowed and calculating the annual interest yourself, finance companies have fees and charges which they do not include as interest on the amount borrowed
Currently banks charge about 7% interest on a loan which is secured by a mortgage on the property they lend it against and the bank holds the title deed to that property until the loan is fully paid of, finance companies hold no security against a loan so they charge a much higher interest rate

You will find that when you borrow money from a finance company you will be paying interest at the rate of at least 15% per year but usually a lot more
They also charge interest on the full amount borrowed for the full term of the loan, so if you borrow 1M baht and you have to make 50 repayments you are still paying interest on the full 1M baht loan when you make your final payment ( the payment number 50)

I had a bun-fight with the phone company once over a charge for a service we hadn't even subscribed to. Ages ago, can't even really recall the details now but the lesson I learnt was just to persevere.

I think that they finally realised after a point that I wasn't simply going to go away and let it drop. Made it more hassle for them than it was worth.
