Chiang Rai YouTube Blogger Graham Briar Dies after Complications from Heart Surgery

CHIANG RAI – British Expat Graham Briar, who uploaded videos about rural life in Chiang Rai Thailand to his YouTube channel Graham & Pie, has died after complications from a triple heart bypass operation.

Graham Briar died on Friday night, his wife Pie confirmed in a video posted on their YouTube channell.

Last month Graham, broadcasted about his need for surgery live on YouTube, saying that doctors told him surgery would cost at least half a million baht or as much need for as one million baht, which needs to be paid upfront.

Graham uploaded a video titled 'Heart of the Matter' where he revealed he had been experiencing a shortness of breath and chest pains.

Because he did not have medical insurance or sufficient funds to pay for treatment, Graham appealed to subscribers to help them pay for his medical costs.

Graham later revealed that an anonymous donor had offered to pay for his treatment.

While Graham’s YouTube channel feature numerous messages of support and well wishes, it also included comments from people who thought he had made up his ill health for financial gain.

Speaking in a video earlier this month, which has now been deleted, Graham said that the whole experience had been frightening and that he wouldn’t wish it on anyone. Graham also hit out trolls who have made “truly vile posts” on his YouTube live updates.

People commenting on the video posted by Graham’s wife Pie on Saturday offered messages of condolences to Pie and their son Fam.

    Christ! That is sad news.

Life is a thing of chance, that's for sure.

Recklessly abandoning the west has its consequences, didn't he even have an air fare? Loser.

At least his beer bar buddies can proudly say ''well at least he never went back for NHS treatment''

Not taking care of your health appears to be more consequential, unless you have a blind faith that western doctors are miraculous saviors!
One estimate has it that the medical profession in the USA kills between 210,000 to 440,000 people a year by mistake!
Funnily enough accurate numbers are not available!

If he was having trouble paying, maybe the Thai docs ''had complications too''

Anonymous donor pays for treatment, he siphons some for more booze and cigarettes to celebrate his recovery. But there are more complications and he's already skint again.

    A no-brainer maybe.

You deserve any comments you get, ever thought of not always thinking the worse of people & when devoid of facts giving them the benefit of doubt.

He died last Friday, enormous amount of interest on other forums and arguments over this guy. He was 52 and lived in Phuket for about 10 years, seems he never has a job at all but sold time share! Spent (admitted it) over one million baht to join some posh golf club and continued his scams there on bigger fish (it's claimed) caught up with him and he claimed his wife who is still there had a gambling habit that cleaned him out. He was building a house that he put on the market for 8.3 million, the ad is still online.

Then washes up in CR a couple of years or so back with a new wife, (gf) and her son to live on her family farm. oh yeah he had another ex back in the UK and a son, never seems to have sent anything back to support the son. Instead of heading back home and getting a job to support the new family continues with various dodgy online businesses, also has meebal a site that is him mostly slagging off Thais and Thailand, he has to take that down after 5 years. Starts up a sort of daily soap opera vlog on the farm, claims the family live in a shack in the fields which was nonsense as the house in the village is often shown. Plays the sympathy card a bit too often- house has no windows or heating etc and claims it's all done for her son Fam. When the patreon and paypal cash starts to really roll in he lost a lot of fans by putting well over 100k down on a bike which cost about 400k all told using her dads land as guarantee. Plus new glasses, teeth a ludicrously expensive camera and lenses and various other (non farm) equipment. The only thing Fam the kiddie seems to have got was prezzies sent by subscribers.

After being admitted to Hospital, after saying his bad health was due to 40 years smoking, launches another appeal for funds. Claimed having no health insurance was just one of those things and said that he needed surgery costing 600-one million baht. Somebody in the UK offered to pay but Graham only wanted the money put into his own account and would not give the Hospital details or proof, then after 2 days said no thanks he had another donor. First donor rang up the Hospital and was told the bill was going to be 250k. Of course people called scam on this. The ironic thing is if he had booked into a decent Hospital instead of the Govt one, like Bangkok Hospital in CM, he might have made it. The triple by pass he had has over 90% success rate, 94 I believe. It's just under 700k at Bumrungrad!

People either love him for his plucky vlogs or see him as a scammer and an irresponsible liar. Seems although he claimed all the cash went into his gf Pies accounts it did not and she cannot access money in his accounts. Personally I think he is the type that Thailand can really do without, well they will now of course. Hopefully his gf will get something out of it all and be able to pay off the bike and buy the kid a bed at last, his real wife will probably have claim to money in his accounts.

Funeral is tommorrow other vloggers going who never even met the guy, I must say I have gone off this vlogging crowd

A common con man, notice his bird Pie is still begging for money along with his stooge. Briar. He isn't dead , reported in Pattaya where his as yet undivorced wife is and also rumors heading to Laos where he has skipped to before. Strange how the big bike he just bought vanished a few days before his rumoured death just like him. Check his track record in Phuket as a scammer, had to leave town there as it got a bit too hot for him .Heart attack would have been a 38 calibre probably.

Has there been any official acknowledgement of his death ?
Every reference to his death seems to stem from the one video his GF made .
It has been suggested that all his 4000 followers each give his GF $5 per month to live on
    When is the funeral ?

Been mentioned often- why not get on a plane and get back home. Firstly he was too ill to fly which I think you have to be, second he would not have been eligible for free NHS treatment and would be charged at 150%. Lets say he did risk the flight, and have a' heart attack' on arrival and straight to Hospital. He had one or two enemies who would certainly have informed the NHS he was not eligible. In fact it is said that one of his online opponents sent the Hospital in CR excerpts of his racist posts against Thais, sure that did not help him any.

Don't write blogs or post stuff when drunk, it can kill you one way or the other, and looks like it has.
