I walk, go to the gym, watch youtube, study a language online, watch sports, and even pop into TD.

Around 5ish/6 I have a beer. Sometimes I wait until 7ish to do that.

I get up when I want except on Wednesdays when I get rudely awakened by the dustmen. I put my trousers on, have a cup of tea and I think about leaving the house.

I feed the pigeons I sometimes feed the sparrows too it gives me a sense of enormous well being. And then I'm happy for the rest of the day safe in the knowledge there will always be a bit of my heart devoted to it.

I dropped this idea because no matter how I phrased it the question looked whiney .

However - as some dudes answered anyway I'll go back to it .
This trip to Thailand was meant to be the decider . Do I move here or not ?
And I'm thinking not .
Only because I find too much time is boring . I honestly don't know what I do to fill my days back in England .... but they do get filled .
Here though --- I can get from waking to about 11am fine .
Breakfast , Coffee , BBC news , Orange Juice , Toast , Mail Online , emails , Breitbart , Bacon n Eggzz ..... tidy up a bit .
But from 11 to about 5 kills me.

The dogs know what to do . Around 11 they choose their shady spot and stretch out for the siesta . But I don't want to snore away the afternoons .
It comes to something ( something rather sad ) when a trip to Homepro becomes a welcomed break in the day .
A trip to Big C is an almost super dooper break to the routine . In England I certainly never considered a trip to Sainsbury's as a welcome break in the day .
More like a pain in the armpit .
Staying here feels like living in sheltered accommodation . Warm . Food . TV . Nothing to do . Bored into napping . Death.

So I am genuinely interested in what you DO every day . You have probably been asked this question many times by the people back in your home country .

If you have kids you're not allowed to answer because your time is full .
And Stevefarang is not allowed to answer this because he's got a helicopter.

What DO you do to fill your day ? ( Probably exclude golfers too . )

A lively young dog or bitch will fill your days, carp ,cats , mongoose, pigs or chickens if in the sticks, hamster gerbils birds in city.

A garden is a lifetime's work whether veg herbs flowers or trees, with hydro can grow indoors
Cooking new stuff, sat tv net ,cycling to neighbours, while not my taste and I tgought banned in Thailand Mail online could be contratsed with an opinion you dislike eg CNN or Guardian get the brain working, plenty folk here with contrastiing opinions on everything.

I've only a river 2 lakes and pool for a dip but if coastal fishing, beachcombing , sailing snorlkelling, others its onanism golf or Buddhism each to their own.

If worst comes to the worst and I'm back in hospital a good book, Amazon won't deliver but Asia books will and free over 1000baht

I think it's a fair question but it's also a bit like asking how long is a piece of string.

End of the day it only matters what you want to do with your own time and if the place you intend to live can meet all those interests / expectations.

if not then it's probably advisable to look elsewhere or to change / get some new interests hobbies etc.

Wake up 4am let cat out of the bedroom make a pot of coffee back to bed for an hour.Shower about 5am do yesterdays washing up quite nice early morning birds singing cat trying to catch one for breakfast.Gert wakes up about 6am we go out somewhere nearby for breakfast.Back indoors play hide and seek with the cat for a while we go out around 08:30 to Bang Chak market tuk tuk 7 baht each to nearest BTS.Back home from food shopping time to get dinner ready eat around 1pm.Relax untll 4pm go out for a walk for about an hour eat food around 6pm normally at a local restaurant.Then i am on the internet whilst Gert watches lakorn.Lights out around 11pm cat wants to get in the bed for a cuddle and some more sleep.

What I want to do is have a purpose .
You'll know that there are an awful lot of highly motivated people who reach their retirement and either pass away quickly or in plenty of cases kill themselves .
Being miserable . But it does happen .
And people who find themselves sitting in Parker Knowle chairs in retirement homes watching ' Cash in the Attic ' on tv and hoping someone will turn the volume down .

I've known 4 people who got it into their heads to downsize their homes ..... release their cash ..... really didn't want to go on a cruise at all ..... and died within a couple of years .
I sound depressed . I'm not . I'm trying to be realistic .
Missy was with me in the UK and pointed at some elderly folks struggling along with their Tesco shopping bags and perusing the cheaper cuts of pork . With Wintry weather outside .

And in Pattaya I see elderly folks in motorised wheelchairs suffering in the heat and I wonder if they are really better off or happier .

A cheap pool would definitely help . Taking 5 showers a day is cooling but not great fun .
It's odd how you use a plastic bowl to take the cool water out of the tank to throw it over yourself but you make yourself into a capital "C" shape to try to avoid it !

Doesn't help that the local shop no longer sells Magnums and the local sookee restaurant gave me food poisoning .
And the local illegal snooker table slopes at least 3º .

It is a fair question as Ant said.

The beauty in being retired Waspy is you can do whatever you want, when you want as a few others stated. The only real limitation is oneself. I am extremely busy doing something different everyday and I really enjoy it. I think a lot depends on the persons make up. If you are not an adventurous type then moving away from the creature comforts and the routine you are so used to may not go over so well.

You make it what it is. I have embarked on new hobbies since moving here which have been quite fun plus refreshing doing different things. I still however have some hobbies I brought with me that I do as well. Now I am married and have a home with land here so I usually spend 10 hours a day (or more) outside doing something(The heat never bothers me). If one lives in a small condo and does not venture out much I would suspect that condo would begin to feel like a small prison cell of sorts especially if all you do is spend time on the internet. But again we are all different.

A snapshot of my day thus far, I took my dogs to vet to get shots and then they did a run and splash in the river, set up a mulch pit for my FIL's small chili enterprise he has going , fabricated 2 Solar lotus pot water pump fountain deals and downloaded NASCAR for me to watch tonight after I am done and relaxing. I still have a few more things I want to do before the sun goes down. I will probably sip some Scotch later to cap off the day.

Tomorrow.........Well that's the beauty. Its another day. I have a list of things I can do. Just have to decide.

Wake up, smash yourself senseless - study something (apparently if you read 100 books on one single subject you become one of the world's foremost authorities on the topic) - smash yourself senseless - indulge in a beverage of two - rinse repeat. Step to the beat.

uh - work. Normally 7 days a week. Fortunately it is a job I enjoy, and in my career we traditionally keep going until we lose our marbles.

Things can be a bit slow when at home with time mostly spent going through photos and planning trips.

Started preparing now for the next trip that starts next Sunday, got 13 stops planned camping in national parks mostly places I have never been and can find very little or no information on, exploring new out of the way places, taking photos.

Dont expect to be back home till the end of March then there should be lots of photos to go through and another short 10 day trip planned in April. After that depends on when and where the rains come but plenty of options with plans for 3 longer trips almost complete and several short 3 or 4 nights to be fitted in.

Life is great, up to you to make of it what you will.
