    Quiet Sunday - Then...Kaboom!

Well, it was a quiet Sunday afternoon. Kids at Karate, maids day off, wife watching TV while I read. Then....Kaboom! Huge crashing sound outside.

I head out and find a new Fortuner has smashed at high speed into my neighbor's wall. Ten foot high wall of reinforced cement that encircles her house/yard.

Father and son crawl out of the wreckage. Battered, but not seriously hurt due to airbags.

Turns out Dad was teaching the kid how to drive. Kid hit the gas by accident (Fortuners pick up speed quickly), panicked and lost control. Dad couldn't get to the wheel fast enough due to seatbelt.

So, one trashed car, and one trashed wall. Car got the worst of it.

    Good job, Dad!

Hadn't thought of that. Fortuner looks like shit.....and I know it's only a few months old.

I'm guessing they may not mention to the cops that the kid was driving.

I'm sure you're right. I don't think anyone saw it happen - it took a few minutes for the rubberneckers to arrive. Even if peole saw the kid driving before the crash, they'll never tell the cops/insurance folks.

Same thing happened to me whilst teaching my wife to drive.....I had a good whinge about it in "The Daily Moan" here.

Luckily she was 2 metres away from the wall when she pressed the wrong pedal. But still like a bad dream for me, in the passenger seat.....we accelerated into it.

That reminds me of when I was a teenager with a part-time job at a petrol station. A customer drove in as drunk as a skunk. He crawled out of his car and asked me to park it somewhere for him. I told him I couldn't drive but he said just to park it anyway. I tried, and proceeded to drive straight into a petrol pump.

Best to have Mom do the teaching.
Less testosterone in the instruction practice.

Pah! All the "sportiest" drivers I've ever known or seen have been women! I once was halfway across a zebra crossing when one floored it over... none of that maternal stuff kicks in...

    Toyota. Must be unintended acceleration.

Did my good deed for the old lady next door. Rustled up a mini construction crew who will start repairing her wall tomorrow. Guys I know who are between jobs. They'll do a good job for a fair price for her. Hopefully she can then hand the receipt to the driver's Dad, or his insurance company.
