    'Thaiglish' that amused me.......

Lovely thing she was.....she gazed into my eyes and asked "You have Mi Wi?". Puzzled I said "Mi Wi. Whasat?" She repeated , but louder "MI WI. You no have?" "You want a Mi Wi ?" I asked. "NO. YOU NO HAVE MI WI?" she yelled......Eventually of course I got it. "No. No have Mi Wi" I assured her.

Now she is my Mi Wi............aaaaaaah. Lovely innit?

What 'Thaiglish' has made you smile?

Spent a very amusing couple of hours once with some ladies in a bar up on Nanai. Subject of the discussion - war stories from the Bangla beginners brigade or the perils of "working" with three words of English in your vocabulary.

Guy was relaxing in that period of post-coital bliss when he asked his companion what she fancied doing. "I horny" was the reply. A bit perplexed he was but gave it his best shot.
When he'd got his breath back he enquired again. "I TELL YOU ALLEDDY - I HORNY". Took a while to sort it out. Poor girl was starving.

Even better was "first-timer meets first-timer". Never having done this before the lad asked the girl how much he should give her. "Wun Tow Zand". He was well disposed and happy with the encounter so he suggested fifteen hundred only to be met by a very angry face and "NO!! WUN TOW ZAND!!" followed by a sotto voce "oh ok"
    when he proffered three purples.

There could be a gap in the market for a phrase book with things like :

My friend me = my friend
My friend you = your friend
My friend him = somebody else's friend

I always remember a West of Ireland story about a mountain woman in a pharmacy looking for a soother/dummy/pacifier who asked for "a tit for a child without a hole".

Yeah, words that make sense really are ridiculous. Not enough Greek these days, mark my words.
