These riverboat trips and rooftop bars are great.......outside of monsoon season.
He could do a daytrip to Kanchanaburi on the train from Hua Lamphong.
Make sure he gets a hotel near a BTS

Another vote for the dinner cruise- actually a very enjoyable way to spend the evening. I went with a colleague who booked us on the boat that Thais seem to prefer. The menu was not buffet style so you could order as much or as little as you liked. The food was great and the beer cold. Stayed at the Eastin Grand last time I was in BKK as it was close to the embassy. Excellent in every way- the pool and buffet breakfast being especially notable.
For such a short trip I would hire a driver for the day to go around the sights. Lunch or dinner riverside is an excellent call.
This is all great input folks. We thank ee.
I must say I'm tempted towards the river tour during the day and the roof top dinner but we'll see what my mate says.
thanks all.
Yes, it's a thought. He's a bit of a history buff and also the Assistant Governor of the Rotary in North Australia. Blokes like that like historical stuff, Wars, battlefields and stuff.
My gut feeling is that after he's had his gnashers mashed he might want a fairly sedentary day.
We'll see what he says.
Cheers.

Take him to Terminal 21 and MBK like I have been doing over the last few days. Great food and lots of eye candy. Who can fault a scoop of vanilla and a scoop of strawberry ice cream for 15 baht ? Smashing, it was !
These flared dresses, in fashion now, display a woman's legs in a most eye catching way. Some stunners in Terminal 21. You can stick Wat Arun, give me lust and ice cream any time, please.
I remember the days of the 0600 finishes.....or at least I think I do....Originally Posted by crackerjack101

My 2 cents!
Stay off the the tourist hwy.
I always stay at the Rompho Mansion. Great location real Thailand. Large swimming pool, fabulous steam room. No tourists. Vietnamese restaurant, tip top place.
Easy access to mrt and skytrain to go anywhere in the city.
Excellent hotel.Originally Posted by Mr Earl

Ibis Riverside is reasonable and has river view rooms and pool. Did a week here in january.
My room wasn't too big, but had a decent view
This is within 10min walking distance...just....on a cool day.
There's a shuttle bus that goes to the next BTS (Krung Thonburi) each hour
Right, he has opted to stay here.

It's cheap, well rated and very near the Dental surgery and public transport.
Job done.
Now for the cruise booking and a roof top dinner on the 25th.
^I'd play that by ear

The best rated places on that booking.com always seem to be the dormitories and guesthouses.

As Dillinger noted, in rainy season it'll be a lot easier.Originally Posted by crackerjack101
Still, you can always book and no show I guess.
With Eatigo you can cancel a minute before

Get your mate to pay it all. The thrifty fukker has saved enough with his teeth, hotel hookers and booze
