    TD Members' Travel Plans 2017

Work have out the calendar for term so been spending the evening planning where I want to go this year. Most of it will be in Myanmar although I will have to make a Thailand trip for banking- one of the many quirks of living where I do is the near impossibility of sending money just over the border.

4 days off in August- Will probably head up to Lashio in Northern Shan for some trekking and photography. The train up there is supposed to be one of the trips in the world thanks to a rather neat viaduct

7 days off in October- Maybe back to Inle- although just thinking about it now I may swap this for Lashio

5 days off in November- Went to the fire balloon festival last time in Pyin Oo Lwin and it was pretty good but the real deal is in the Shan capital of Taunggyi- it's VERY popular so I'll be booking the hotel after posting. Already excited about this one.

Christmas/New Year- Fly to Thailand dump money in account and get back to Yangon ASAP. From there I am hoping to explore Myanmar's southern coast.

Would love to find an easier way of getting my money into my Thai account.

Looking forward to hear other folks plans

Have a shack that sells beer around the corner of Bogon Mansions.

Gonna try and devote some time to there and give them my custom.

Puerto Rico in early June for a conference. Back to the sandpit for a week then off to Hanoi for a weeks sightseeing. Back here for six weeks, then Bagan/Mandalay/Chiang Mai in August. Pattaya for Golf in September. Dunno about Xmas yet, I land in Bkk on 23rd and the world is my hamster.

1 week loop tour/camping around Saudi at Ramadan.
Crater - Cave - Cliff - desert - Petra-like chiseled rocks - Red Sea diving

Alaska for 3 weeks in July/Aug. In and out of the back country.
(few days in Florida on each end = family)

10 days in September is a toss up between U.A.E & Japan...could combine them.

May pull off a 5-day safari in either Tanzania or Ethiopia in mid-November.

Need to make a quick BKK visa run in July to pick up a 6-month visa that'll keep me good until the Xmas break, (then I get a 1-year visa).

I plan to visit some amber mines to the west of Naypyidaw, see if there is anything interesting to buy.

In November, I plan to run the Bagan Temples half-marathon.

Sending money to Thailand has always been a problem. I used a 'Hunday' (sic) agent years ago in Yangon and never had a problem. Now in Naypyidaw, I don't know of an agent so I bank my cash in local kyat in AYA Bank and then withdraw it in THB when I'm in BKK using my AYA Bank Unionpay card.

Also - I do have a Visa debit-card issued by AYA Bank for online purchases. I tried to use this to pay a Paypal invoice that I sent to myself from my Thai Paypal account (the plan being to send an invoice to myself, pay it with the AYA card, then transfer the proceeds directly to my linked Bangkok Bank account).

Alas, it didn't work - Paypal still blocks use of Myanmar Visa cards....

My big travel plan this year is a trip to the Phi Ta Khon festival in Loei end of next month.

Repairs/remodeling of my house will keep me in Thailand for the next year unless some emergency arises.

LoL, never seen Indians in Naypyidaw - in Yangon and Mandalay yes, but not here.

I'm on a similar holiday timetable to Mandaloopy, so need to figure out where to visit in my free time.

Florida, then East Texas in August/September. May push it to November and do thanksgiving in TX. Probably take the wife to New Orleans while we're there.

Already been to India, Indonesia, Brunei, & Saudi this year with work, and Thailand of course.

Actually don't want to travel anymore at all & would be perfectly happy kicking it at the house in Thailand and doing fuckall for a while, but the wife wants to travel & my family is harassing us to come by for a visit.

I've no plans for the morrow, if you're interested in lunch time beers.
