InfoWars’ Alex Jones Is a ‘Performance Artist,’ His Lawyer Says in Divorce Hearing

    Suckers...

The Alex Jones who told his legions of "Infowars" listeners that bogus stories about the U.S. government being behind the 9/11 attacks and about Hillary Clinton operating a pedophile ring out of a Washington D.C. pizza joint is really "a performance artist."

That's according to Jones' own lawyer — not the mainstream media that the right-wing radio jock derides as "fake news."

"He's playing a character" and is nothing like his online persona, attorney Randall Wilhite reportedly insisted in a Texas courtroom at a pre-trial hearing ahead of the right wing radio jock's custody battle with ex-wife Kelly Jones.

Judging Jones by his Infowars performances would be like judging Jack Nicholson by his depiction of the Joker on "Batman," Wilhite told state District Judge Orlinda Naranjo last week, the Austin American-Statesman reported.

Kelly Jones is seeking sole or joint custody of her three children, ages 14, 12 and 9, with her ex-husband, an ardent supporter of President Trump who broadcasts from his Austin home.

"He's not a stable person," she reportedly told the court. "He says he wants to break Alec Baldwin's neck. He wants J-Lo to get raped."

"I'm concerned that he is engaged in felonious behavior, threatening a member of Congress," she added, referring to Jones' recent comments about Rep. Adam Schiff, D-California. "He broadcasts from home. The children are there, watching him broadcast."

There was no immediate response to Kelly Jones' claims from Jones, 43, who is also known for pushing other widely discredited claims like the moon landing was faked and the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre was staged.

Meanwhile, lawyers for the warring Joneses began seating a jury in the Travis County courthouse for what's expected to be a contentious two-week hearing, court officials confirmed.

The couple divorced in 2015. Jones reportedly pays his ex-wife $43,000 per month, according to the Austin paper.

Jones' Infowars site was a hub for anti-Clinton conspiracies during the presidential campaign and Trump publicly thanked him for his support.

"You reputation is amazing," Trump he said in December 2015. "I will not let you down."

Jones claimed later that a victorious Trump later reached out to thank him and his listeners for his support.

Perhaps the court will order a mental health evaluation on Jones so we will know if his grunting is performance art or he is a bat shit crazy paranoid with a radio show.

I'm betting on the mental instability, which is why his wife is asking for custody of their children.

^ There is no doubt this clown is mentally ill as are many of his followers. I hope he loses his kids as he is clearly unfit to be a parent.

He's not mentality Ill in my opinion. He's a very savy business man who attracts the anti vaccination, conspiracy theory, food hoarders and general lunatic fringe to his products in the millions. The guy is paying $43,000 a month to his estranged wife.

I think it's possible to be a fucking mental case and still have good marketing people around you.

    E.g. Michael Jackson.

Sociopaths can be great businesspeople and for someone like Alex Jones, being genuinely mad (within some boundaries) would probably be a positive - if his crazed blackboard act is really heartfelt, the fucking idiots who watch him are going to be even more eager to buy his flatpack doomer bunkers or Krugerrands or pre-packed bugout bags or whatever crap it was that he was selling.

I like how Equire puts it.

Will Alex Jones Admit He's a Fraud to Keep His Kids?

Is Alex Jones' volcanic public persona real, or is it all an act? The answer to that question could determine whether Jones keeps custody of his children. In a Travis County, Texas, courtroom over the next two weeks, the InfoWars host will battle his ex-wife, Kelly, for the right to look after their kids. According to The Austin American-Statesman, Kelly Jones' main argument for overturning that arrangement is that there is no difference between her ex-husband off-camera and the unhinged right-wing conspiracy theorist he appears to be on-air, and that, as a result, he's unfit to care for their children. The counterargument from Jones' lawyers is that his act is all "performance art," which you can't use to judge Jones the father—nor the man. To keep custody of his children, Jones will try to convince a jury that he's a fraud.

"He's playing a character," Jones' lawyer, Randall Wilhite, told state District Judge Orlinda Naranjo. "He is a performance artist." Wilhite compared judging Jones for his InfoWars antics to judging Jack Nicholson based on his 1989 performance as the Joker in Batman. But Batman was a movie, its premise presented purely as fiction. On InfoWars, Jones presents himself as a True Believer—and he peddles his evidence-free conspiracies as the real truth that The Man or "the globalists" don't want you to know.

Just yesterday, that real truth included a passing allegation that President Obama is not the father of his daughters—a throwaway line in a discussion of how he colluded with German Chancellor Angela Merkel to orchestrate the Arab Spring. Jones promotes the unfounded theories that both the 9/11 attacks and the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, were "false flags" perpetrated by the U.S. government. He has alleged that both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton "smell like sulfur," supposedly evidence that they are literal demons sent from Hell. (Jones has also called Obama a "wicked, wicked devil.") He frequently melts down into wild displays of screaming and animalistic growling—enough to make him a popular trope for compilations and memes.

None of this is presented as performance art, though some episodes are obviously contrived. (A YouTube clip where Jones makes a show of tearing off his shirt as part of a Hillary Clinton-inspired meltdown is clearly staged; the InfoWars staffers don't sell it nearly as well as Jones.) If he's playing a character, he's playing the far-right's 21st-century approximation of a newsman, a creature of the fever swamps of an Internet information ecosystem increasingly unmoored from reality. While the theories and "news" Jones publicizes or dreams up wholesale are frequently false, he presents them as the truth. And his viewers believe them.

Jones would not be the first to adopt a persona to capitalize on the Content Industrial Complex driving modern right-wing media. Recently, footage emerged of TheBlaze's Tomi Lahren playing a moderate liberal on college access TV. A year or two later, she presented herself as a right-wing firebrand. Did she really have a genuine revolution in thought in the meantime? (Lahren was dismissed for expressing pro-choice views last month.)

What makes Jones' case so intriguing is that he and his lawyers are the ones pushing the claim that he doesn't believe what he says on his show. It must be a tough choice: Do you stick by your claims that the government is putting stuff in the water that "makes the frickin' frogs gay" and risk losing your kids? Or do you tell everyone it's all a sham, and risk losing your audience?

With Jones' disdain for the constraints of objective reality, don't be surprised if he can thread the needle.

Crazy or a showman, either way his business will be damaged and she will get less as his income decreases.
She should have thought it through.

SKKin: Why don't you ask the mods to change your nick to Esoteric1? Fits your posting style better and it's the nick you've always used.

I don't think you get it missVOA. That pic means Alex Jones making the opposition(to the failed status quo) look ridiculous...and he does a fine job. That's why I've never liked him.

I'm surprised InfoWars makes so much money that he can afford to pay his wife 43K/month in support.

    $43,000/month.....

Looking quickly online, the website is either worth 88 million USD or 2 million USD...

He controls three related websites, plus two daily streaming/podcast news-type programs, and all the associated marketing. Be assured, he's worth quite a bundle.......to be expected from these promoted ultra-right wing patriot wackos.
