Comedian CHARLIE MURPHY DEAD AT 57 After Leukemia Battle

Worth its own thread IMHO. A legend has died.

Charlie Murphy, Eddie's Murphy's older brother, and a very successful and popular stand-up comedian in his own right has died ... TMZ has learned.

According to Charlie's manager, he died from leukemia Wednesday morning in a NYC hospital. He'd been going undergoing chemotherapy. Family members tell us they're absolutely shocked because they thought he was getting better.

We're told the family would call him frequently, and he'd even joke they were calling too much.

Charlie famously co-starred on "Chappelle's Show" in some of Dave's most memorable skits ... including the nights Charlie partied with Rick James and Prince.

Charlie also co-wrote some of Eddie Murphy's movies, like "Norbit" and "Vampire in Brooklyn." He co-starred in "Are We There Yet?," "The Boondocks" and "Black Jesus."
He recently toured with Cedric the Entertainer, Eddie Griffin, George Lopez and D.L. Hughley on "The Comedy Get Down."

Charlie's wife, Tisha Taylor Murphy, died in 2009 from cervical cancer. They had 2 children, and he had another from a previous relationship.

    Charlie was 57.

    #RIP
As every 'Chappelle' fan knows, Charlie was really tight with Prince and his death last year hit him hard. He joined us on TMZ Sports to share his memories of his friend.

Last and absolutely not least ... enjoy the GREATEST Prince story ever told!

    I sincerely doubt that.
This C list character is undeserving of his own thread.

    not even d list....he's eddie murphy's brother.

he told a couple of stories on dave chappelle's show....stories he never would have been able to experience / tell if he weren't eddie murphy's brother.

and it was chappelle who made the "charlie murphy true hollywood stories" actually funny.

    a shame he's dead...but a legend?

Why would you find a spoof on Rick James funny. Rick James is a 70's icon. Well before your time. Has your X box rotted your tiny brain?

    That's sad.

Those are some damn funny stories he told on Chappelle's show. Supposedly true, too.

Charley Murphy, Rick James, and Prince no longer with us.

How could Slick find it funny? He is probably unaware of Rick James. A spoof on Selena Gomez would be more his speed.

    LMAO. This is a fact.

That skit was so funny, the story goes that it actually caused Dave Chapelle to have a nervous breakdown due to the pressure to live up to that level of funny, eventually end the show, and go on some safari quest in Africa.

Now that is some seriously funny shit right there

Its an iconic TV moment that propelled Chapelle to comedic legend status overnight. Basically everyone in the world found it funny. It didn't matter if you knew Rick James or not. They told you who he was. That was the whole point of the skit.

You're trying to argue a point that already happened.

What, that a c list comedian, who is the brother of Eddie Murphy, who croaked deserves his own thread on the basis of a skit that some people found funny?
I doubt Eddie Murphy's death would merit a seperate thread.

Well I was moreso referring to whether a person who knew Rick James' music could find a skit about him funny

Some pretty shit things seems to merit their own threads so its not exactly a high bar to reach

the incident that caused the end came when a white guy watching a taping of the show laughed too long and too loud during a skit in which chappelle was in blackface--and this made chappelle question if he was doing more harm than good with regard to racial stereotypes. he turned down a lot of cash and took a two week vacation to s. africa.

shed no tears for chappelle...he just picked up 60 million from netflix for 3 stand up performances he did last year.

    but this thread isn't about chappelle....it's about eddie murphy's brother...who's a "legend".

Yeah maybe a stretch, but I guess I was inspired with the RICK JAMES BITCH thingy.

That whole skit & time is a bit legendary to me.

Just googled it and according to a quote from Chapelle the reason he quit is because the spotlight became so big he felt like it wasn't conducive to raising kids in any kind of normal environment. Of course we know the reason why that spotlight got so big, so my explanation was a wee bit closer to the mark than yours

Why would I hate someone I never heard of? No doubt this guy had a niche following but he was hardly a comedy legend.
