How are Thais going to get home?

My Mary just can't stop talking about this Thailand subject and keeps showing me pictures off of the web to back up Thailands latest development. I looked on here for a thread on this but there appears to be none.
The law forbidding anyone to ride on the back of an open truck as a passenger is to be in forced to bring down road fatalities.

According to Mary Thais are stirred up about this and voices of opposition are being written about it on the Internet .

My wife mentioned about this today, think it is another BKK law that has not been thought out.
Song tows are pick up trucks, long seats, as called, are they outlawed, farm workers and families all go in the back of a pick up truck.

Can't be enforced, outside of BKK, if even there going to be hard, most of the school buses out my way, are flat deck trucks, kids sit on benches, covered, but plenty sit on thr roof.

Kind of doubt they will be taken of the road and replace with real buses.

i dunno how it works in the rest of the anglosphere but in the UK it's very hard to get away with car offences for very long, and the penalties tend to have an impact. it's hard to see what impactful penalties could ever be enforced in toyland, even if they had checkpoints everywhere catching people.

Anyway the annual cull (aka Songkran) is about to begin and once the carnage is over and all the blood washed off the streets, the law will come into play. Maybe.

Enforcement of laws and a police force not born from, and designed to run solely on corruption and criminality. Thus the rules are respected and if you break them you can expect to be fined, which is better than breaking them and quite possible dying live on Facebook while people make Oh-Hohhh sounds.

Begins after songkran to allow people to travel home unrestricted. Presumably the authorities don't care if they die on the way.

On Thai social networks folks are posting pics of army troop carriers, open backed passengers.
Thais are complaining that they are too poor to afford other transportation, and saying that at least Thaksin would have made them better off so they could upgrade their transportation before introducing this enforcement.

My wife told me about this yesterday since it was on the Thai news. I just laughed and said they will be unable to enforce it and they will change their minds in a few days. Up here in the NE, many Thais don't even have a TV. Short notice, no enforcement, wont happen.

Not allowing Thais to ride in the back of a pickup in Isaan is fighting words. Silly really.
