how do I hire a tefler - key stage 1?

I need a tefler, prefarably a non sex pest one for a few months to try and ram 3 terms of Key stage 1 English and maybe maths into 4 and a half months before the new school year at the end of August.

Where do I look for one? Am I gonna find it hard to get one who is not working in a school?

Is it feasible to cram a years work into that time?

Where can I get hold of the text books?

^ I did look on there, didn't think about placing an ad. Are there no sites where I can have a look at them?

Word of mouth is the best, but to do this you have to know teachers, students, or parents, or school people.

Tough to find if you're not in the industry or in one related to teaching.

    When you do find candidates,

I would ask for current references and follow up on them by calling. By calling references you want spontaneous answers to specific questions.

If a teacher also give you "letters" call the contacts in those letters.

*'Letters' are letter of recomendations from schools where he/she worked and are on the official letter head of the school with specific duties performed and all contact info on them.

For the current and best textbooks,

I would go onto teaching forums and ask.

    People are helpful.

There are some members here on the 'Thailand teach' forum, I think.

I'm going to the Philippines in a couple of weeks for holiday.

    Do I need one? No.

    I'm just taking one.

    I do not teach, BTW.

I think your English is perfectly fine, though wifey could sort out the finer points of grammar for you. I can help you with your maths though. Yes, I think we can cram it all in, you seem quite bright.

August? Is that for the start of term in the UK?

Are you looking for a full-time teacher? If so, a retired teacher might be your best bet (or an unemployed one).

Will it be from scratch or will it be revision of work already covered at school?

It depends on which books you want. Standard Thai school text books are easily available and inexpensive. But will the child be following the Thai curriculum or another one?

^ I've not been much help really to her, especially puttingf her in a Thai school of which she was having an hour a day extra tuition.

I've looked into proper schools now and she's been assessed and she should be in year 2 but they've told me she's gotta drop back a year, so I can't piss about now we are playing catch up.

^ I think should answer your questions, Nev.

    British curriculum

Theyve told me to start her in April for the last term, I don't see the point if she's gonna be doing that again next year, so I wanna use that time, teaching her from scratch

What fun we'll have! My wife has already called her friend who is the head of Immigration and advised him to have his people on the lookout for a short, middle-aged, dumpy American wearing a plastic helmet and clutching a sippy cup. Will your caregiver be accompanying you? Wife is also going to go out and buy plastic seat covers for the new car in case your drooling is really bad. We'll have SUCH a good time!

It will be a shame to lose you as a regular TD contributor, but there are always trade-offs.

I can type it into google.

    https://www.google.com/search?q=Key+...hrome&ie=UTF-8

    There ya go.

First I'd look up the curriculum.

    https://uk.ixl.com/standards/england/maths/key-stage-1

Order in some UK school books

    http://www.mathsmadeeasy.co.uk/maths-year-1-2-books.htm

    Then get stuck in.

I'll buy the books off you in a few years if you haven't doodled penises on them.

    Ha-ha, Davis

But it's too bad you despise me so much.

You and I never argued or fought on here.

Then, one day, about a year ago or so, you decided that you hated me.

    I don't know why.

It's your problem mate, not mine.

    It's your loss.

I'm happy with my life and I'm happy on the board.

    But you are not.

I'll be staying at the Pan Pacific Manila.

    5-star.

    Celebrities have stayed there.

They wouldn't even let Davis into the lobby there.
