    Hospital costs?

Anyone know which would be cheaper to see a DR at, the same one. Bangkok Hospital in Bkk or Chulalongkorn memorial in Bkk? Never been to Chula but last time I saw her at BH the prices seemed to be about the same as Bumrungrad, ended up having endoscopy there. It's always the Dr that's important of course not the actual Hospital but there's nothing wrong with not paying more than you have to. Tried St Louis last time for something else, Dr was no good at all. I always try to pick the ones that have worked abroad then at least you know you can talk to them in English.

I had an Endoscopy done 6 months ago in Korat. How much did they charge you? The Gastroenterologist that did mine was spot on and was a lecturer at University hospital.

Just had 18 days continuous treatment for a Tropical ulcer on my back.

The charge for the Doctor to cut it out, have the nurses clean it every day then the Doctor to suture it was 23000 BHT.

Went to the Hospital everyday for 18 days, yesterday finally given the all clear.

I attended a private hospital in Bangkok, not Bumrungrad.

No doubt Bumrungrad is a world class hospital but the only reason to go there is because you have travel Insurance or private Insurance within Thailand.

So many other private hospitals in BKK can provide the same level of service as the above at a reasonable cost. Much less than Bumrungrad.

Sayin that, if you have Insurance go Bumrungrad.

    Why not. ?

You can go to all the nicest/expensive hospitals in the world but unless the doctors knows what he's on about you're wasting yer money. That's my experience.

Good doctors tend to work at the nicest/expensive hospitals as they pay well. Thats my experience.

I thought the consultants charge their own fees and are not employed as such by Hospitals?, many seem to work at more than one place. Some of them are a disgrace, have to look for recommendations and working abroad experience, otherwise they are used to being treated like gods by Thais who dare not ask a question.

So a good doctor tends to be a doctor that works in a nice expensive hospital? You're having a laugh.
From my experience that is not true. Some government hospital doctors are shit. But the same goes for private as well. Always go for a second opinion. Money doesn't buy you a better doctor. Been there done that. Sorry to disagree B0b

Consultants here are generally nowhere near as good as in the UK.

Without actually having a contest I'd say that's difficult to prove. There are some very good doctors working private as well as government. In fact they work both. The only thing you can be sure on about private is that you'll get a nicer room. And that's only cuz you pay for it.

If I had spent a huge amount of time studying to be a Doctor i would want top dollar payment as well.

This is the money shot ,

These Doctors move between Private and State hospitals. The good money for them is Private of course.

I have now sorted a Doctor who is surgeon, speaks perfect English and who has published journals on laparoscopy .

Taken me 3 years to source a top shelf reliable Doctor.

When it comes up against Bumrumgrad and private Hospitals in Bangkok its not the Hospital but the Doctor.

Takes time to source a Doctor that one will stick with, in my case 3 years.

Being close by a Private hospital is a good call for older guys, you will love it when the shit hits the fan.

Of course, but that's because British people are much more intelligent than the rest of the world.

No problem, it was a subtle point and I expected it to be way beyond most TD posters.

I must say that their System is a disgrace simply because the Thais refuse to query the Doctors opinion. It's their stupid caste system and fear of authority that shackles them.

That said, if one gets a good Doctor things are good but if one gets a quack things can go South real quick with no recourse.

The only way to go in Thailand is to research your problem and hope the Doctor is some what on the same track.

Things work in a totally different way here in Thailand than the real world.

But in general, the medical care in the vast minority of Private Hospitals in Bangkok is certainly top notch.

Just make sure you can pay the Farang price.

Half of them are wogs these days Living near a hospital is not a bad idea, the last person we know who died here (40's) took a while to get there through the traffic. The Dr told her mum if only they had got there sooner he could have saved her life. Might have been true but stupid thing to say, govt Hospital.

If that was the case I would be straight on the plane back to the real world.

No way in the world would i be hanging around this monkey town second guessing a endemic system that extracts maximum dollars from the Farang.

Way it works in monkey town.

What a twat you are B0b.

I suppose what ones circumstances are.

Given six months to live I'd go back home, watch the Telli 24-7 whilst getting the whores in and getting on whatever drugs i could find.

If i was a broke arse pensioner living in Thailand on 30 baht a week with no way out I'd just die a miserable death i suppose. ???

But NA, ya must realize that many of us have a choice.

We are not all retarded and cut our bridge.
