Need to go to VFS next week for a passport renewal. Which of the 2 airports would it be best to fly into? Don't need advice on BTS/Skytrain etc as it will be taxi both ways. Cheers.

If you are travelling light and time is an issue then Swampy is your best bet every time because of the link to Phayathai. But if you have mobility problems then I'd still pick Swampy because the congestion south of Don Muang into Bkk is much worse than from Swampy westwards into the city.
If you're hand luggage, go to Swampy, get on the train and go to Nana BTS Exit 3, five minute walk to Soi 13.

Use Google Maps for directions and timings.
The itinerary is now boxed off, with VFS having given me a midday appointment to submit my application. More timing options routing through DM, so opted for Air Asia at a very reasonable 3000 baht return. Arrive DM at 10 a.m. which gives me plenty of time to make a 12.30 appointment.
Need to be back at DM circa 6 p.m. so once I've finished with VFS, my thoughts are to have a leisurely lunch and a few drinks in the proximity of VFS before heading back to DM.
Any suggestions for venues? Not interested in a tour of BKK, just something pleasant close by.
^ Sportsman is next door. Come out and turn right.
Margarita Storm is at the mouth of Soi 13 (you will see it when you pull in).
These 2 places are right on the your doorstep, but loads more options if you're willing to travel 10 mins or so.
Oh yeah?
Delayed arrival by 45 minutes, fart around queuing to get a taxi at DM amid the usual chaos with queues of Chinks and God knows what taking up to 45 mins and then one hour to Trendy.
I would never have cut it that fine particularly when the whole purpose of the trip is fucked if you're late.
Poor management all round if you ask me.
Gullivers Soi 5 is a reasonable venue and relatively convenient provided of course you are not shopping for perishables.

When you leave customs turn right to get to that escalator to departures
2- Get that taxi to Mo Chit BTS- 15 mins
3- Mo Chit BTS to Nana - 20 mins
4 - Nana BTS to VPS - 5 mins walk
Have a look at the website below, you can download the app too and go get yourself a slap up lunch
Get yourself a table booked at The Huntsman@The landmark Hotel next week anytime between 2pm and 4pm and you'll get 50% off food.

Then nip round to Nana and sup a few beers whilst watching all the weirdoes walk past
Looking at Google maps, going to Don Mueang from Nana is only 34 mins right now and getting to nana from don Mueang is estimated at 23 mins, the time of day you are flying in I would stay in the taxi all the way and fuck being crammed like a sardine into that skytrain,. It'll be busier if you're leaving around 5pm rush hour though so leave a bit earlier
If you believe those times then you probably believe in God.
Last time we flew into Don Mueang arrived around 15:30 traffic was horrendous.
We got a bus to the nearest BTS Station which took a slightly different route to the worst of the traffic jam. It only took about 10 minutes to get to the BTS station and another 20 minutes to get to Bang Chak.
Fascists dress in black and go around telling people what to do, whereas priests... more drink!
From DM airport go outside to Vipavadee-Rangsit road, hail taxi, take the tollway to Din-Daeng, from the tollway then take the expressway to Ploenchit. From there onto Sukhumvit and soi 13 on your left.
^
You probably hit the afternoon's pre-rush hour traffic. People trying to avoid the evening rush hour and those trying to get back to their work places to clock off and whatnot.
OP will be arriving 10am or there abouts.
Some illuminating comments folks. I really have no experience of BKK to.speak of, hence the plan to get in a taxi at DM straight to VFS. 10 a.m. should see me after the commute congestion, and before the lunchtime scrabble. This is a uncomplicated in and out. Sausage (or any other kind of) shopping is not on the itinerary.
Given the appointment system at VFS, I think I should be clear of there circa 1300 hours. 3 hour lunch/drinks then taxi to DM around 1600. Shit happens, it will be a rescheduled appointment, or a rescheduled flight back to Phuket. Toiletries and a change of clothes will be carried.
You'll be fine to make the appointment.Originally Posted by PAG
