    2,000 Dog Names

    Naming Your Puppy

Image:The name you choose says as much about you as it does about your dog. It shows how you view your dog and your relationship with it. Some names can cause people to judge a dog and react positively or negatively/fearfully when meeting it. Depending on whether the dog is a pet, therapy dog, search & rescue dog, tracking dog or any other dog that works with the public, it is important to use a name that conveys the proper image. Happy searching!
Popularity:The most popular dog name in North America is Sam, Sammie or Samantha (which means "listener"). The second most popular is Max, Maxie, Maxwell or Maxine (which means "the greatest" in Latin). Third is Lady, followed by Bear, Maggie, Buddy, Tasha, Chelsea (or Chelsie), Holly and Shasta. Other very popular names are Brandy, Ginger and Taffy.

I had a black cat once, I called him Graham... I don't understand why animals have to have 'silly' names like Smokey, Rex or Tigger.

^ Yes they should be given human names. Its what Mother Nature intended.

I was actually christened 'MOOG'. This is not a made up silly name. Its my real name.

Actually Laundry is a cool original name, if I may alter what I said earlier - I don't like all the unimaginative steryotypical pet names like Rex and Tiddles or Bubble and Squeak the hampsters.

I knew somebody who had a cat called England, I also knew somebody who had a dog called Liver.

I have cats rather than dogs. I named them Oscar & Church (after the psycho cat in Pet Sematary). I love them more than anything. Well, not Oscar, the ex took him & he got run over

I knew a guy who had a cat called Me109 after the second world war Luftwaffe fighter plane the Messerschmitt 109.

He took it to the vet and the vet read the form and called it Melog - but I don't think it was offended.

No, they don't. When I say 'inside', I mean inside the yard, although they do come inside the house.

The outside ones are soi dogs, that live in our quiet dead end soi, just outside our gate.

Nothing cool or original about it, really. She slept on the laundry; hence, name = Laundry. fekkin ran out of names.

I had cats named Didi and Gogo (from Waiting for Godot, because who is more existential than a cat?).

Then Didi decided not to wait anymore and ran away.

The next additions to the menagerie were a dog and another cat, so I went with a Southern theme...Beauregard (dog), Tallulah and Gomer, the renamed Gogo (cats). Then we were joined by a pit bull terrier, Buster.

Our dog's name is Bai Fern, which means fern leaf. Calling her Fern works in both Thai and English so she's good little bilingual Tse Zui (i know too lazy to look up the spelling)

    I only have two questions:

    1. How do you remember all their names; and
    2. How often do you change your bedding?

My last dog was called "Khao Pod" = corn. I left him with mum while I was in a school, one day I came home, my cousin told me that mum traded him with a small bucket.
