Know any "farangs" with Thai Citizenship?

I have only met two in my time and they were both women and one was from an Industrialist type wealthy family. I recall an applicant must satisfy a number of requirements including passing the 11+, candidate for Matayom school Thai Language competency exam, Provide evidence of charitable giving, meet specified income and wealth levels and I imagine grease a few palms.

^ I know of one. A European, (Full) Professor in one of Thailands highest ranked Universities, fluent in Thai (reading and writing). Male.

This site has a reasonable description of the process:

A friend of mine is currently undergoing the process to become Thai. He hopes to get the citizenship next year. Seems quite an arduous, convoluted and erratic list of requirements that are always changing Kafka-esque stylee; but that's probably a requisite for becoming Thai anyway. Fair play.

I met an Aussie bloke who claimed to have citizenship. He certainly speaks reasonable Thai but he claims to be best friends with a top cop and that's what got him in.

I know one. He says it is always funny at the airport when he stands in the Thai immigration lane.

The female teacher I know with citizenship says its a case of who you know rather than what you know. Her husband is a middle class Bangkok Thai they don't have the money for a significant bung but she can chit chat in Thai but can't read or write a word so some of the required qualifications can be overlooked.

I know two, one born here and one offered because of his substantial contribution. They are few and far between, which if you look at the nature of the sinothai oligarchy is obviously deliberate.

I always go through the Thai lane. Once I was asked why I was in this lane, and I replied that my wife was waiting for me. No problem.

I know a French guy who was born here in Thailand, speaks Thai as good as a Thai person (Maybe even better because he went to a private Thai international school) but he hasn't got citizenship.

    Both parents are non Thai

I met some fat drunk Eurotrash bloke who claimed the Princess got him citizenship because of some kids charity or something, but I didn't believe him.

TBH he sounded like one of those people that does work with kids so he can get unfettered access.

A good friend of mine got his Thai citizenship a couple of years ago. If I recall correctly it took about six years for him to get it.

Iíll be applying next week. I have already done the first visit to the police headquarters and will be going back next week to submit the first lot of paperwork.

I'd like to go for it.

Best part would be renouncing my UK citizenship, but I have to wait until my old mum pops her clogs first because I don't want to deal with the UK visa bolox.

If I could ever get any other citizenship I'd love to burn my UK passport and stuff the smouldering embers down the throat of whichever time-server "civil servant" clown the FCO decides to send off to be "Their man in Bangkok"

Nah, mate, I always go to the Thai queue. Only been questioned once (as mentioned above). But I do allow queue-jumping...don't want to press my luck.

I don't even know you, nor have you been mentioned, but it's interesting that you jumped in, isn't it?
