    The turkey thread...gobble gobble

As the season of merrymaking is upon us and the Jingle Bells is playing at megawatts in every orifice of anywhere.

Here's the TURKEY ( bird not country ) thread. Tell us your plans for feasting on the bird, the best buys, the best places, memoirs of turkey indulgences, failures oh yeah had many myself.

Here's what not to do wit dat turkey.

Here's why you should never deep-fry a frozen turkey

    Happy festive season to all.

The best thing I can say about turkey is that you can make a half decent sandwich out of it, with the correct trimmings of course. It is more tasteless than a chicken, and harder to cook than a goose. It is totally over rated.

It's emotional attachment to the American people is that some kind hearted native Americans saved the early English settlers wretched lives from starvation, with a gift of turkey to eat. Hence Thanksgiving. So give thanks- but spare me the turkey.

Surprisingly common in Trumpland, especially the southern half. Years ago, I was at a party where a gargantuan deep fried turkey was then smoked over charcoal for an hour. There were regular bursts of flames and whatnot, but the yokels doing the cooking seemed unfazed. I have to say, the best damn bird meat ever. Later on, the boys brought out the guns and did some shooting, whilst doing bourbon shots and listening to Skynyrd.

I advise going for a ham. Unwrap it, quick glaze, bake for the appropriate time, enjoy. One modest pan to clean. No bones (minimal at least) or big globs of skin/fat.

A turkey is large and complicated to the point of not being worth it. There's a reason turkey is not an everyday food.

When I was a kid my mate's mum drunkenly defrosted the turkey under a hot tap on Xmas morning

I had the veggie option that year

Give me the right herbs, and I can make cardboard taste better. At least the brown meat has something resembling taste.

It is all in the preparation per se. I'm sure anyone could stick flowers in an arse and call it a vase but it's still an arse.

It was like this, except it was adults and real guns. I took my turn, I had to despite my pacifist leanings, to be one of the guys. Also after some whiskey shots, firing off a few caps actually is kinda fun. Turns out I'm not a bad shot.

We shot up some kids toys real good, meaning the kids got new stuff for xmas. Cycle of life in the South.
