What is your attitude to posting?

    .
So, what is your attitude to posting? Seriously?

Me? I came from another Forum ... the 'other' Forum.
No, not the AJ Forum ... the other Forum.

I joined, not long after first coming to Thailand ... full of Western ideas and ideology.

Accordingly, on the Forum, I posted in sync. If someone disagreed, I would refute and re-post, pointing out where the reply (member) was wrong in my view.

Now that I'm here on the TD, for me, like living in Thailand, things are more relaxed.

I post, or OP and, if someone disagrees, I politely correct the technically inaccuracies as I saw them, but after that .. forget it.

    A bit like Rodriguez ...

So, if you agree ... great ... if not, as the Thai's famously say ... 'mai pen l/rai'.

    How do you post?

True to core values, or a let and let live attitude.

    Curious to know.
Be honest .. no flaming from this OP.

This forum was created as a response to the rejection of TV by a forthright guy who wanted a pub atmosphere rather than a wine bar atmosphere. Since his death, the forum has lost its way and become diminished.

The problem as ever is the lack of an MC in the forum... and a skeleton crew of moderators with emerging TV-like attitudes to posting, and a handful of entrenched elderly posters who regularly indulge in long-winded repetitive childish argu-threads... behaviour they struggle to unlearn.
The lack of leadership and hostmanship of the forum is killing it slowly, as there is less enthusiasm for the sorts of things that created the pub atmosphere - like building threads and other ways of sharing images and advice all related to projects. You can see the number of threads has fallen, and characters have left, and any notion of friendly getogethers has withered. Until or unless that changes this forum will continue on its path. Few new members, and older members gradually dying off or finding better ways to spend their time. I think it's probably too late: attempts to create new forums have never really taken off and whoever owns this probably won't hand it over to anyone who could revitalise it. So the decay will continue...

Like many others, I put a lot more time & effort into posting during the early days, when the place felt like something new and worthwhile, not least because of the Dog's personality.

Now I just partake for entertainment and to get a bit of (usually low-key) news & info.

    To try and amuse
    To be amused
To try and help if I can
    To solicit help, on occasion.
To promote thought. (bit high horse maybe)
To alleviate boredom on quiet days

So, what is your attitude to posting?
    Depends on the thread.

For example this one, I'd probably go for:

Mostly it's like my attitude to Thailand.

    I don't post what I can't afford to lose
I don't take it too seriously (nobody else does).
Mostly I like it here but I realise I probably won't be here forever.
What I believe is right or sensible isn't alway the same as other people's views here.
Intellectual discussions are either very hard work here, a complete waste of time and sometimes not even welcome.
It is easy to be misunderstood. Sometimes it's worth correcting the misunderstanding. Sometimes it's better to just walk on.

For me it depends on what section and what topic(s).

    I'm pretty casual.

Sometimes with currents events and politics I have give lessons, even though they do not hear.

I can harsh at times: "better to get one shot to the head than 10 to the body."

    Wot? No you tube clip?

The lessons you try to give are ill informed dribble. You are the opposite of Jeff.

True of all web forums. The Golden Age is over.

Bit like a relationship with a woman, when there is a point reached where neither of you will admit you are wrong about anything. And you above all talk to convince yourself you are correct. Its over at that exact moment, even if you deny it or don't realize it for months. But still, get a few shags in, to avoid regretting not doing so, later on.

Be myself (except on Sunday's when I'm Elvis)...

umm not take myself too seriously (cause no one else does)..

I'm cool with lurking in the darkness - well away from the TD spotlight...

    Learn from you all..

^I thought you were rainbow dickie during Sundays? Lol.

As to the OP, I'm with dickie. The way I post here is usually how I talk in RL, except that I speak in my mother tongue. I don't take TD too seriously. I'm here for the travel threads, for some news, and a bit of light hearted fun. If I can help someone with his/her travel plans, then I do so. Cheers!
