Smile The most dangerous organisation in world history

Noam Chomsky: Donald Trump's election will accelerate global warming and humanity's 'race to disaster'
The US Republican Party is now 'the most dangerous organisation in world history', US academic says

The renowned American linguist and philosopher Noam Chomsky has warned the US Republican party is now “the most dangerous organisation in world history” because of the denial of climate change by President-elect Donald Trump and other leading figures.

Following the US elections, Professor Chomsky said it appeared humans planned to answer what he called “the most important question in their history … by accelerating the race to disaster”.

Mr Trump has already appointed a prominent climate change denier to run his transition team covering the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and other advisers include people with close links to the fossil fuel industry.

He has also pledged to scrap the United States’ ratification of the Paris Agreement on climate change, which President Barack Obama has hailed as “the moment that we finally decided to save our planet”.

Leading climate scientists have expressed dismay and concern about Mr Trump’s election, suggesting it could be an “unmitigated disaster for the planet”.

Speaking to the Truthout website, Professor Chomsky pointed to a report by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), which said the past five years had been the hottest on record and reported rising sea levels, unexpectedly rapid melting of ice and other effects of climate change.

The election on 8 November had given the Republicans total control of the US government and this meant they had now become "the most dangerous organisation in world history”, he said.

“The last phrase may seem outlandish, even outrageous. But is it? The facts suggest otherwise. The party is dedicated to racing as rapidly as possible to destruction of organised human life. There is no historical precedent for such a stand,” Professor Chomsky said.

“It is hard to find words to capture the fact that humans are facing the most important question in their history — whether organised human life will survive in anything like the form we know — and are answering it by accelerating the race to disaster.”

in Trump defense, the Paris accord is a pipe dream that everyone, I mean really everyone, is going to violate. It's simply not feasible.

It was mainly an ego and political move by Hollande to "temper" the green electorates in France. They have no intention to bind to it. That's why everyone has signed on it.

The problem with Global Warning is we know so little, and the field is litered with frauds, fake researchers, and lunatics. Almost as bad as the 911 theorists.

Something should be done, but as usual, letting governments doing it is just making things worse. It should be a global citizen initiative, not a government and special interest one.

I think God Chomsky is a bit "emotional" about Trump, even though he is raising valid points.

His lectures on 911 and Iraq and the interesting GW Bush administration was by far his best work, even though some of his arguments were a bit hyperbolic, ala Michael Moore.

once upon a time they said the climate deal in Paris was irreversible

then someone says, it would take 5 or 6 yrs to reverse

and now another says it can be reversed in 1 yr..

    More or less, yes.

    Would a bounty work

11 million illegals first to deport a thousand gets the Humvee

For maintainance Wall built around 12 feet inside USA so the deportees could build it from the South side, and the snowflakes could paint a mural.

Fortunately Canadians don't need to they realize few below have the IQ to see the benefits of public health service and barring guns from angry morons

There always has been and always will be climate change from ice age to warming period and back to ice age again just a matter of how hot it will get this time round. Possibly hot enough to grow trees in Antarctica and far north Canada where they grew once as shown by the fossil trees that are there now.

Those who are making a fortune from the 'man made climate change' thing are going to need someone to blame when in spite of all that is supposed to be done to stop or reverse it the climate continues to warm.

Personally I'm all for stopping and preventing pollution of any sort and I suppose if this hysteria over climate change can do that then all the better.

Yes the US is the most dangerous organisation on the planet they have proved that by the wars they have started and the death and destruction they have caused and are still causing.
If Trump can do just a little to mitigate that by normalising relations with Russia, stopping giving weapons to rebel groups and stopping the bloodshed in Syria he will have done the world a favor. He cant be worse than what has gone before.

For the sake of discussion, lets say climate change is bullcrap. The fact remains that the general health effects of breathing air that contains car exhaust and other hydrocarbon emissions is highly negative. Anybody who has spent even a week in China knows this.

For America, I'm more worried about the possible loosening of regulations on oil exploration and extraction.

Shouldn't we want to avoid more of this (below, Canada's oil sands)?

If you are more worried about that, then act in that. Don't mire yourself in the global warming bs thinking that it will help even if it's wrong.
