Drunk Russian flees crash scene leaving five month baby dying

Drunk Russian flees crash scene leaving five month baby dying

A Russian tourist was arrested for allegedly killing a Thai woman and her five-month-old daughter in a road accident in Pattaya early Saturday, police said.

Twenty-eight year old Konstantin Volk was arrested while he was allegedly trying to flee in a Honda Civic car after the accident.

Police alleged that the tourist was drunk when he was speeding his car and crashed into two motorcycles that had stopped at a traffic light in South Pattaya at 3:40 am.

Amphai Inwan died at the scene. Her five-month-old daughter died later at hospital. Amphai’s husband and two-year-old-girl and a thirty-six year old Thanongsak Inwan, a taxi motorcyclist, were also severely injured.

Mr Thanongsak said that himself, his wife and two girls and another motorcycle taxi were stopped at the red light when they were hit from behind.

Was that 4 on a bike; mother holding a 5 month old and a 2 year old while the father drove? As we know, these rides at anytime, nevermind 3:40am when the drunks are out driving, are accidents waiting to happen.

Regardless, extremely sad for the family involved, and the Russian will pay for this dearly...
How do I post these pictures???

Shise. So sad. And look at him - texting. Doesn't give a damn.

And he fled the scene... even more horrible. did he think they wouldn't catch up with him?

As this is the day that i was born, i am in a good mood. But i only feel hate and disdain for that lowlife scum.

And sad for the family that has been torn apart.

Sad to the victims, and I trust the perp will do his time, but as Betty implied, the parents bare some responsibility for the death of the child. A baby should never be a passenger on a motorbike, let alone during drunk prime time.

If the drunken cnut rammed into the back of them this is hardly relevant.

Yes you are quite correct mate but this is Thailand.

Being Farang and pissed up tops all other things, plus the hit and run done him no favors.

I'll go the Thais side on this one.

I trust the above comments are not based on perceived cultural superiority?

In Asia two-wheels is most often the only form of transport available to people. Families included. So it is quite normal for a whole family to be on the only form of transport available to them.

There is no blame that can be assigned to the, victims in this instance, regardless of how superior you may feel.

I dare say if they had the choice they would have been in a Mercedes and had proper seats for their kids but they did't have the choice. Poverty strips you of choices in life leaving the proverbial shitty end of the stick/motorbike drives at stupid o' clock in the morning with you're family packed on.

Fuk me, some dumb twats here...

From what we know of the incident, very little..., it looks like a drunk guy rammed into the back of a family of four on a bike at 4am-ish.

This was predictable, it happens all the time. There is no way I would take a wife and two kids on a bike in Thailand at anytime, nevermind 4am...

Cultural superiority, kindly fuk off you morons... Thais have brains and make choices. Do not take two kids on a motorbike held by mother on roads where drunk drivers are likely to kill you, or the mother may drop the kids when you turn a corner too quickly, etc. People make choices, make plans, such as: I will not take my kids out at that time of night on a motorbike, I will get a taxi because it's safer. If I don't have the money then I won't go out tonight because I don't want my kids to die. Etc, etc.

Moron... Decontextualization, asyou've done, is the sign of an idiot.

Moron. Ignorant beyond belief, we have Thai wives, kids, lives, etc, here, and when we don't have enough money to do it safely then we don't do it. Simply. Excluding Fluke who would be an idiot whether he was English or Thai.

Moron. Decontextualized hyperbole is the sign of an exceptional idiot.

I feel very sad for the family. Kids dying is terrible, especially when your choices as a parent directly contributed to it...

I have chosen not to have kids with my Thai wife. The reason being is that even though she has a car and money, she chooses to go to the market, on dangerous local road, on the motorbike instead, sabai sabai... It'll be sad if she dies due to that choice, but no way would I accept or allow the position to develop where she kills our children due to her sabai sabai attitude. I have Thai friends, poor, but smart as anything who you could trust to make great choices, but my wife is not one of them and there are fuk loads of others that do similar hence the terrible road death rates. This incident is very very sad, but very predictable and very avoidable. Poor folks (and you don't know if these folks were poor or not...) are still capable of making good choices.

Nope. Normal is not right. The people have a choice not to take kids on a bike.

There's a high probability that the motorcycle will have had no rear lights working. What is it with Thai's that they won't spend 30 Baht on a light-bulb? I wish I'd had a Baht for every cnut I've come across with no rear lights.

    Sorry for the deaths. RIP.

These types of road-kill will always happen in Asia, where people rely on luck, amulets and wishful thinking, rather than on robust crash-helmets (not plastic mickey-mouse things), sticking to road rules and lanes (instead of ducking and weaving any old direction), having max of two on a bike, side-saddle passengers and the driver refraining from multi-tasking while driving.

The bike's handlebars festooned with plastic bags of groceries, the driver sucking on an iced coffee in one hand while yaking on his mobile (hands-free) and steering with his free hand, usually the only one in the group wearing a helmet, often stylishly perched on the back of his head.

At least, the driver could use his mirrors to look out before deciding to take off at an odd angle.

It's not uncommon to see the four on a bike trick, with a dog in the front basket.
