fuker must be friggin nuts.
jeez.
one less monkey in lopburi.
For an Australian, Torbek appeared to be a pretty decent sort of person. Therefore I wish him & Mrs. Torbek all the best back home.
Congratulations, Torbek.
Treat Thailand as a blip in your career path. Tell folks you were researching for a book, or something. Get on with your life & the best of success as you get your life back together.
Cheers...
Well hope it all goes well Torbek, & would appreciate hearing how the move goes.
Gone quiet lately- not posted for almost 2 months. Maybe busy preparing for the changes.
hope the dude has a shit load of money as things have got mad expensive lately.
forget about buying a house unless you been saving up your pocket money from birth.
jeez.
Good job he aint going to England, saving pocket money from birth would only buy you the front door.Originally Posted by terry57

the worst part is the cost of buying a house, but rentals have shot throu the roof because housing prices have hit the moon.
people have taken out huge morgages and now interest rates are on the move and weve had 5 interest rate rises in 18 months.
cost of living is bolting ahead as well.
glad i own my place and got a top job, but cant wait to move to asia as the whole fukin shit house is going to explode very shortly and people will crumble under the interest rates continuing to rise.
poor bastards, and young people will never own fuk all unless daddy gives it to them.
all bow down before the mighty los.
I should think with Torbek being a professional person Thailand wouldn't really have suited him anyway.
Make your money in OZ and spend it in LOS. Makes sense.
Bugger working for $3 an hour in Thailand when you can earn $30 an hour in Australia.

absolutely top idea.
3 years to go and im taking early retirement, movin over and will have a shit load of aussie dollars to play with, living off my considerable interest mind you.
way rents are going i can rent my house out for 6 squillion quid a week but being the resonable punter i am i'll only charge 5.9 squillion .
might go down to allan ladds place in patters, drink his cheap piss and buy a trollup to celebrate. ( after 2.00am 200 baht bar fine )
then ill bolt back to bangkok to hang out with my mates.
a man cant hang around with women for too long as they drive you friggin troppo after a while.
top fun shaggin them thou.
A wise man
I make the prediction that many more expats will leave Thailand in the coming 2 years
better still to be earning $30 an hour in LOS...Originally Posted by Panda

you have to say he gave it a fair go...first off in the boondocks and then a stint in the big mango before returning to Loppers and the bosum of matrimonial bliss with his ocker wife...
he won't miss a beat going back to Oz but will be richer for the experience...
oh, and he'll be back for sure...
kudos Torbers...

Nothing went wrong.
Been here 4 years as part of plan to wander around the world for an unspecified number of years working as little as possible and travelling as much as possible.
It all worked that way for a few year. Seen a lot of SE Asia...long visists to Vietnam, Cambodia, and (lesser degree) Nepal. Several visits to Malaysia, Singapore. Brief visists to Philipines and Indonesia, playing football.
Went from teaching ESL to teaching Uni to trying to establish a decent business (got half way) then back to teaching Uni.
Decided I liked teaching enough to start to a GradDipEd (equivalent of PGCE...technically). That was my main reason for going quiet...shit load of work between earning a living and studying. I finish that in a month, but it will just go into the filing cabinet for the time being.
Anyway, out of the blue, while doing a month long stint teaching high school in Australia recently as part of GradDipEd, I got a call from my ex boss (banking) suggesting I apply for a particular role. Didn't want to at first, as it was contrary to my wife and my plans...but in the end, I threw my hat in the ring.
It's a good job, in a related field to what I used to do, but in an interesting company and location. Never thought after 4 years in Thailand I'd be a candidate for such a role still but low umemployment in Australia, particularly in finance, and maintaining past contacts, presented it to me.
On reflection, too good a deal to refuse.
But I'll be on the road again after a couple of years or so. Most likely Asia, but probably not Thailand.
But I dont (and wont) regret a minute of my time here. It is all part of life's experiences.
Great place, as long as you never take it too seriously or forget what it was that brought you here to start with...
[yep i'm leaving AGAIN too... that will be twice this year....but the wife is sick of me hanging around doing nowt....so it's back to Rugby HQ.
...working for a living sucks!!.

For some reason one can only burn Westland bridges, whereas Cvntland's arms (and snatches) are always open to returning prodigal sons!
