Toyota Yaris versus Nissan March - which one?

So, for the first time I'm going to buy a new car here in Thailand.

Besides having no idea of the ins and outs of buying a new car here we're also faced with the choice of car.

It's primarily for the wife and we seem to have come to the conclusion that it's to be either a Yaris or a March.

She, bless her, wants a white car.

Automatic, white, full spec. and that's where we stop.

We're going to hit the Toyota and Nissan dealers in Chiang Mai next week but I wondered if any of our esteemed members had any views, suggestions or preferences on the matter.

I want to pay cash but we're advised that it's better to pay in 2-3 installments. I have no idea why, but it's to do with tax or something. I've no idea.

So there we go. Any thoughts, folks.

    Yes, you might be right.

Mazda 2 I suspect you are thinking off. The Nissan March is a horrible little bubble car, though cheap.

    Or Mazda 2?

Buy whichever one the wife likes and/or from the dealer nearest to you.

Ah ha, that's it. The Mazda 2. I don't know why I thought it was called the March.

Mazda 2 looks a lot like the Yaris and, if I remember correctly, the full spec automatic version came in at under 500,000

    suck, compress, stroke n blow.

The 4 stages of a 4 stroke engine.

The 4 cyl will have one cyl doing one of these at the same time.

The 3 cyl won't. Who wants a girl that won't suck or stroke when you want her to.

The March is cheaper because it's only 3/4 of an engine, and is cheap and plastic-ey for those who can't afford a real car with a full, proper engine.

Yes, that's the plan, sort of. Trouble is she knows less about cars than me.

Personally I'd be happy to stick with my aged hilux but she's very excited about the idea and she's certainly earned it after the trials and tribulations of the last 12 months.

Toyota and Mazda dealers are reasonably near-bye.

    Yaris:

    March:

The Swift is actually the leader of this class.

But if I was going for one, I'd either go for the Swift or Yaris due to a dealer being on every corner of every soi in the country.

As of course is the 1.5l engine in the BMW Mini Cooper.

    Oh and the Fiesta Ecoboost

Don't look at the engine in a Fiat 500 Twin Air

I've driven both Toyota and Nissan though not Yaris or March but what I can tell you is that Toyota seems to generally be better for after-sale service etc.

Go for Toyota, the Nissan is a spam can.

Ford are presently going through some issues with some pretty unhappy consumers over the Fiesta and Focus. There is a consumer report regarding Ford's false claims at the moment in Thailand too.

I am waiting for the news from a Thai colleague in the media for the automotive sector. Seem a recall may be due over transmission problems with the Ford. Waiting for the wife to confirm.

Mazda 2 is a better drivers car btw.

Yaris or M2 it will be i think.

needs to be automatic and white

Can anyone outline the best payment package? I don't understand why it's considered better to pay in 2-3 installments.

We obviously want the best deal we can get and I'd assumed that payment in full would get us the better deal.
