New camera, too many to choose from.

Hi all i'm looking for a new camera and any recommendations or input is welcome, i'm no David Bailey and i refuse to read instructions unless i really have to.

after a little web search the Canon Ixus 950is looks pretty ok.

maybe someone who knows can point me in the right direction?

Do you really need 8 megapixels? Is the lens that good? Wouldn't you rather have a camera that uses standard batteries rather than a proprietary one?

I put that into the search and it gets me 25 threads, even old people must be able to find the thread they want out of 25

I have 2 cameras, both samsung, ome 4mb pixels and one 8mb pixels, the 4mb one has a German lense and takes better pictures than my newer super high powered one which has a normal samsung lense, best go for the canon I reckon

Honestly can't see why anyone would ever take photos at 8 mega pixels, unless you want to decorate a hotel with it.
    3 is more than enough.

well I'm foked if I know how you do that DD cause when I enter the words "new camera" it only searches for the word "camera" and gives me 20 pages of threads, including all the current threads which I get when I press "new posts"...

So which did you enter? Search words need to be 4 letters or longer.

I haven't had a decent camera for a few years, as i said before i'd like it to be easy to use (minimal instrution reading) and have got back into taking pictures i won't say actual photography as i'm not that good, my phone has a 3.2 mp camera in it which i find ok but want something better for some decent shots.

that's because phones make shite cameras.

One of many links here: Samsung NV Series: NV10: Digital Photography Review

I have the NV 10 but there's 2 others in the NV series.

It's easy to use, looks and feels nice - retro sort of look to it and the black finish is a welcome change.

It is the only compact camera to my knowledge that is like a chunky professional camera in that you can adjust the exposure time and settings if you don't want to use flash or if you want to get that trailing brake light effect on a night shot of traffic.

It also has settings for multiple shots like a paparazzi camera, ideal for speed or action shots, it will fire away like a machine gun as you hold down the button (sorry my terminology is not very professional) - the zoom is good and you can also crop photos or make them black and white or colour gelled. There's also a timer and lots of other shit.

If you don't want to use or explore all the tricks just keep it on AUTO mode, but with the wheel on top and the unique scroll buttons it is very easy to use.

My only gripe with the scroll buttons is that they are quite sensitive and can take some getting used to if you are used to flicking through shots one by one - you'll see what I mean.

It is very good value for money and comes with a spare battery, remote control and magnetic leather case... Oh yeah, and it won an award.

Great easy to use charger which can be plugged into a USB or a standard wall plug thingy which is supplied, overall a very good little camera, far better than the Canon piece of shit I bought a year before.

Happy snapping should you decide to go for this.
