    Obama helping Monsanto? Again...

US food safety campaigners outraged over GMO label law
Food safety organisations in the US have condemned a new law they say will allow food producers to obscure the labeling of genetically modified ingredients in their products, despite widespread health concerns over the effects of GMOs and the pesticides associated with them.

Signed into law on Friday by President Barack Obama, the legislation permits manufacturers to inform consumers of GMO content through the use of Quick Response or QR codes, which require a device - such as a smartphone - to read.

    ...
The law was passed despite opposition from environmental and food safety groups, as well as national polls which show that some 90 percent of Americans surveyed favoured clear labeling.

    ^ indeed.

My point really is not against Obama per se (although he has been shameful...), it's the way business interests, whether they be oil companies, pharma companies, weapon companies, dominate politics at the expense of the citizens.

This has always been the case, but it seems to be so very extreme nowadays. We know, for example, that Obama's biggest donations were from the same banks which he then gave many many millions of public money too without the banks themselves and the people who committed the crimes suffering at all. The same in the UK. When will it end?

Another issue is the GM foods debate and how the food is forced upon unwanting consumers.

    Bloke can't win can he?
WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama has signed into law a bill that will require labeling of genetically modified ingredients for the first time.

The legislation passed by Congress two weeks ago will require most food packages to carry a text label, a symbol or an electronic code readable by smartphone that indicates whether the food contains genetically modified organisms, or GMOs.

And people seem to forget that the President does not make laws - the Republicans will be the ones who watered this down.

I'm all with you BB on these issues. Big business influencing politics, Monsanto and GMO's etc.

As for the OP, I suspect the stealth of labeling is actually for the benefit of exporters to TPP sucker customer countries where this particular controversy may not be brought to light as much, if at all.
Keep in mind, too, that many of the TPP suckers will act as a hub. Import from the US then re-export to 3rd world countries where they will have no idea whatsoever.

What might one expect from Corporatism [Fascism] and it's workings?

Political machines = establishment = vested interests = greed = control

The only true way in which to combat such historied nasties would be to live one's protest.......en masse

Well.....not really new, but allowed [by the mindless populations] to be formalized in official establishment doctrine - International Law [whatever that is].

Because we let them. It's what we prefer.

Nothing whatsoever democratic and "for the good of the people" is the spawning monster of the TPP.
