Interesting little tidbits here. https://blog.adioma.com/entrepreneur...t-infographic/
Of course these people are well off from the norm of most that never finished college. Davis mentioned living in a housing development with retired Generals, Doctors and the like. My thoughts on that are if you wish the same for your children someday you better hope and pray they stay in school and don't spare the rod about it for we all know that without schooling and or training of some sort the average child doesn't stand a chance to make it today. Granted their are exceptions to every rule. Think Ice Tea or some other streetwise rappers and the like.
I worked with a guy that had his son in ballet classes at six years of age. Now I heard a few guys ribbing him for it to wich he replied simply the the boy will get more bisket throughout life than a French pastry cheff if he so desires. I had a laugh on that and it shut the clowns down like right now as they thought about it as well.
Think Showboat .............................the..fish.

Its ok for genius to drop out Einstein Gates Jobby but for average dummy like me even a masters degree only allowed me a meagre income and reirtement at 37 on to the 20 hour week and now zero, With hindsight investing in a PHD if I could have handled it would have paid off as in Unis dummies with more letters get larger envelopes generaally for less hours and effort just endless BS meetings and at worst meetings about meetings the ultimate Powerpoint to cire insomnia esp in Howdy Alabia and Jaunquistan aka Uni Florida
Hey don't fret now about it. Hindsight is allways 60/40. Well 80/20'd be even a better deal. Money isn't everything but it will put the butter on the bisket. Some never make it to retirement before their numbers up.
Keep yourself in order is what it's really about.
Example, I know a twenty something "kid" that went to play a game of hockey with his friends and had his front tooth chipped a bit. So he goes to tie one on with the boys and gets really smashed.
Leaves the tavern way too late driving and ends up killing a father and his very young daughter as well as injuring her sister. He will be doing some serious time as that's no joke. Sad but true so teach your children well about lifes choices and trade offs.
Sorry for the sad reality but it is what it is. Mabey I shouldn't have gone here but some may think and learn from this unfortunate avoidable accident.

I don't understand that commentOriginally Posted by Slick
Haven't you said before what your rent was? Or was it your monthly outlay? I don't remember the figure but I'm quite sure I'd remember 5,000 baht a month for rent. Even a 30k TEFL'er is gonna spend more than that

My electric bill is like 6,000 a month.
I spend a shitload more than that monthly though. Car, insurance, gadgets, bla bla.
My outlay is pretty large but well under what I can afford.
I mean you seem to be projecting a bit cause youre always talking about "Americans & Credit" etc...
I've never had a dollar of debt. Can't say the same for many of my close family members.Originally Posted by Slick
I do use credit cards though. 2% cash back and a boost in credit score, just gotta be used the right way.
Same. I use them for most purchases but purely as credit-score/building exercises.Originally Posted by redhaze

Nothing wrong with debt if used responsibly. Hell of a wealth building tool as well.
Yeah, I guess I shouldn't have said that. I started my first business using a shit load of credit cards actually when I was in my 20's, back when they were handing these cards out like candy. They were all 1 year zero APR though. American Express actually gave me 20k and I wasn't even employed at the time. What a laugher. I was able to pay all of them back before the term was up. Plus I acquired a mortgage a few years back, which is a sort of debt but it has equity so not reallyOriginally Posted by Slick
I should have said something more nuanced like I've never paid a dollar in credit card interest. That would actually be true. But that doesn't sound as good lol
I went to Uni and another one and a Master degree...lol...and my career evolved towards a complete different direction defenitley not planned 10 yrs ago.
With that said. I don't think uni is a must anymore, spcially in our society. I think there are many more different way to get experience without uni.
Still. I studied what I love. I am proud of what I have done no matter where I am going to end. It really opened my mind.
How smart are they?
Lots of countries have a shortage of medical practitioners

Pretty much how it works. Employed on merit, payed by domicile. Go to most mixed nationality foreign work sites. Swedes get paid what Swedes get, Canadians get what Canadian get, Indians get what Indians get, South Africans get what South Africans get. Nobody is getting the same, even for the same job. In some instances even guys from different divisions of the same company get different rates.Originally Posted by OhOh
Look what happens in Asia when an expat goes "feral". Often the company will no longer pay "expat" rates.
As for shipping there would be no reason to hire crew of a different nationality than of the flag carrier unless the remuneration was less. All US cruise ships would have US crews . All UK ship UK crews, etc , etc. But they don't do they.

Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?
I apologize if any offence was caused. unless it was intended.

It was explained to me a long time ago that it's not what you do but what you know that justifies your pay rate, at least where I'm at anyway. Sounds like whoever wrote that skit knew a little bit about what they were talking about.
Fitter vs electrician, pricless as sparkie does think that way from my experiences. What a laugh, I love it. You just made my day with that bit.
