My family roots, one side clear the other side dark.

Based upon what I have learned my English roots go back to the peasants revolt and the gun powder rebellion but my Irish roots are pretty much hidden in the streets of Armagh in Northern Ireland.

My Irish Grandmother is the most wonderful woman I have ever known, 16 children, running a dairy, a potato plantation, a piggery and the locol post office as well as the only woman to turn away an Australian bushranger named Thunderbolt made her a legend in Australia and where she lived.

I really want to learm more about my Irish heritage and I believe my grand mothers family left Ireland due to obvious problems that had been going on for at least 50 years before they migrated to Australia.

I found this link and have found it most interesting.

Obviously my Irish family members were not involved in the later troubles between Northern Ireland and Britain but it seems to me that my family members left Ireland because of the ongoing problems which started more then a century before they left their homes to start a life in a new country.

It also concerns me as I still have relatives back in Britain that this Brexit result may split communities even more.

    What are your thoughts...........

Sincerely I'm sorry, but it does sound like you're on the turps.
I can see sorta where you're going, but you're usually more lucid.

Brexit won't split communities in the UK, hardly anyone is even talking about it now.
It's like it never happened. Only the hardliners keep winging about it.
FWIW my Aunty in Oz traced are family back to King Kavanagh (1357–1417), Irish King of Leinster

Ireland is Ireland but Northern Ireland always seems to be clouded in mystery and with regard to finding out information. Maybe I am wrong but it seems they have been fighting for more then a century what the Jocks are only starting to fight for recently. Independence.

Far more. Started in 12th century.

A simple majority vote by Northern Ireland would end in joining the Republic of Ireland. Doubt "divisions" would become worse. Probably improve.

I know my dad and know his and my ancestors going back to the 1,300s but the Irish half of me is interested to learn more.

Is this wrong and I cannot do a question mark on this fucking computer.

My grandmother's maiden name was Patterson and I believe she was related to this guy.

but I cannot see any relevance - it seems closer to thai facade than any rational reason

if you think it will imbue you with some more importance or mystique then you should probably question who you are associating with

Obviously a bloke that cannot engage in meaningful discussion.

Dont be concerned Chitty as I am really an Aussie but my willingness to fight against the odds must come from somewhere and I doubt it comes from my Aussie or Pommy blood.............

    Thanks for your input mate

I only realised today that a lot of the hatred between the Irish was religion based.

Sad state of affairs actually but I am sure that the Irish regardles of their religion are a strong great race of people.

Why not give them their independence............

I'll PM you my surname as I must stay stealth here in Thailand until my court case is finished.

The Irish Mafia or whatever they called themselves were feared by the soft as shit Sicilian Mafia but they could not spread themselves wide enough.

Anyway JFK was of Irish decent so I believe and he controlled everything until the wogs brought him down. No thanks to his conniving thieving and totally scum based father who I expect was also Irish.

I suppose what comes around goes around Jacky and Bobby.

Because a clear majority of them do not want it.

The Anglo-Irish Accord of 1984, signed between the governments of Charles Haughey and Maggie Thatcher (neither exactly limp wristed lib'ruls) states that when a majority, ie over 50%, of the population of Ulster votes for secession from the Union, then it shall happen. The Accord still stands, but every Referendum to date has failed by a clear majority. Some said the EU might change that, and some are now saying Brexit might.

We'll see- but ultimately it is up to the Ulstermen to decide. Fuck the IRA.
