I saw somewhere that you can actually buy kits to convert a standard bike into an 'e-bike'. Looked quite cool.

I've had one for a couple of years.
Get 2 kids and a bag of groceries on it. Bloody brilliant. Taking the kids to school I'm back before the ones with cars are out. Nips through traffic jams and gridlocked school roads. Does about 40kph.
Bought one new battery for it after 2 years 700 Yuan.

Chinese made? What name/brand?

I think I've seen some Chinese brand or other here but forget what they're called.

Loads of these in Bagan, Myanmar, for getting around the temples and they work a treat.

I fukin hate bikes and bikers, totally gay. With one exception, CyclistSlaps cycling across the fukoff bridge up North was extremely manly and impressive (the bromance with LycraBoy on day 2 of said trip, somewhat less manly...).
