Perhaps in theory, but extremely unlikely in practice. I have been told, for example, there is NO WAY Bangkok will issue a gun permit to a foreigner (there might be exceptional cases?), but wives can easily get gun permits and buy the gun. Personally, I wouldn't want my wife owning a gun, but maybe that's just me...

You can also, as above, relatively easily (?) get an illegal hand gun, but if you use it (without, say, a wife to claim to police she used it, in self defence, dead person on your property) then you will: 1) be paying very large bribes; 2) likely go to prison. You could, find your local army/police gun range, start developing/practicing your skills and get to know the locals that are likely to know how to help you...

^^ If you would feel safer having a gun in your home, then never mind Thai law, just go out and buy one on the black market, cause if you ever came in a situation where a gun was the only way to save your/family bacon I'm pretty sure you'd rather face the problems of bribing your way out/or a Thai court - than the undertaker.
