I am going to give the smokes up

Well after the last two weeks of trying to shake a cough I have made the decission to give up smoking. I was going to just stop cold turky but a friend gave me a book called the easy way to stop smoking and it tells you to read the book to the end and follow each step before giving up. I had been thinking about giving up for a while now as it realy is a foking horrible addiction

Get pneumonia for three days, best thing that happened to me!

I've been off the fags and beers for 9 days and I hardly miss them!

3 a day cuts the edge off and I don't have to kill anyone.

Booze was a snap to quit as I didn't want to drink anymore and knew that if I didn't have one I didn't have to have a second, it was easy, just the old ideas that it was time for a drink, but mental, nothing physical.
But smoking is a physical addiction and so I feel the need to restoke once in awhile and have 1. I would like to have more, but don't,, don't work like booze does.

I have never wanted a drink since I got sober..

Same here, tried to quit smoking a while back, couldnt do it, but have cut down to usually about 4 or 5 a day.

I have asthma, a pretty good reason to quit. Instead i find myself using my inhaler so that I can comfortably smoke a cigarette.

I've got that book. I'm assured it's actually very good and effective. I might actually get around to reading it at some point.

Oh, he's dead by the way you know. Allen Carr the author of that book. Died last year aged 71. Lung cancer.

    Cold turkey, 2 years now.
Helps to avoid the obviuos places that people smoke a lot
Also to cut back on the habits that you enjoy when smoking like a cofee or too many beers.
Having said that, I gave up a long time ago for 10 years, and started again.
Hope this second trip lasts longer.

Fuk, I started smoking Bull Durham when I was less than 10 years old, damn fine job of rollin em up too.
Went to Tailor mades when I was 12 and been smoking all my life, so I think it is pretty good to cut back as far as I have.

But would like to quit, pobly will when they shove me in the oven over at the WAT, maybe smoke for a few hours, but will eventually quit.

Shit if I was still drinking there would be blue flames for 2 days before I finally went out.

So you will be off the piss then Rigger? I found it way easier to do at work than at home with all the free and easy lifestyle sipping changs all day without a care in the world.

I quit twice now at work for two months and started again at home.

Going to a doctor and having to get a radioligist to check my chest x ray out then waiting all weekend for the results made giving up easy. I shit myself.

I usually just taper off to two or three a day then go cold turkey. It only takes a couple of seconds for the urge to pass then carry on without lighting up and yeah, you need to be away from smokers and ashtrays (in case you light up a butt in desperation)

BTW I am back on them now.

Do it mate and good luck. best thing you will ever do and you can get pissed after a month or so on it. Just don't be tempted to have one when pissed just "fotr old times sake" easiest way to start again.

Next time a cig makes you feel ill (like the last one of the day) meditate on that everytime you have a craving. Worked for me. Also quit the heavy drinking!

    No, What is it??
But I was on ZYBAN 3 or 4 times at about $80 a pop and it don't work, when we smoke we get the rush, same as a shot of Heroin, don't get that with them quit smoking things and until you do, they will not work for 95% of the folks that smoke.
