I think it is a tip of the iceberg situation mate.

Easy targets that carry normally assets but Thais are being attacked and robbed as well.

I have heard through mutual friends in Bangkok assaults and robberies are on the increase as well.

A few weeks ago Kurgen said his wife was robbed not to mention another friend's wife around the Maprachan area was attacked.

Just trying to warn people to take care.

the current government is not helping, that's for sure, but the economic crisis is slowly starting to loom into Thailand and this is the end result

with the expected event to happen anytime, it's going to be ugly, Saigon style

There has been a increase in crime in Thailand and there will continue to be a increase in crime. Whites have been and will continue to be targets due to racism and the mentality western people are rich. I am not just talking about local young yabber heads l am talking about police, government. Most of you would be easy targets.

This happened around Maprachan Lake on the darkside of Pattays and it has been reported that the same scum attacked another 6 people during their night of thieving filthy mayhem.

Please be careful as things are happening here in the Land of Smiles which have never happened before.

Cheers and travel safe my fellow members.
They used to do a similar shit act on the road up Karon hill between Karon and Patong. They would ride alongside you, two up, and the guy on the back would kick you off your bike and then bash and rob you. It was occurring that often it was almost like the original scumbags were selling franchises to all the other low life's.

Even the checkpoint at the bottom of the hill used to shut down at a reasonable hour so the mayhem could commence.

Eventually it became so obvious what was happening that the bib had to shut down these attacks.

From memory I think it only took a couple of nights of actual policing and the robberies stopped.

It only seems to stop when one Thais scamming lmpacts on another more important arseholes scamming.

Bear in mind mate that reports of similar assaults seem to be a daily occurrence in Oz.
If a mate or neighbour was a victim in Oz would leave?

thailand has been selling its soul ( and its mothers and daughters ) for some time now to attract foreigners and their money into the country. the more foreigners that leave the more desperate will be the response of the thai to eecure the easy cashflow that foreigners provide.

the thai is just too damn lazy to work hard for money. they want it all easy.

at the lower levels of thai society, where most of the chickenheads dwell, trickery, robbery and legspreading is all they know.

Yes mate, it is a horrible world we live in today but please understand the reason why I posted this thread.

I have lived here for almost 30 years and I have never ever felt threatened before. Over the last few years things have definitely changed and most of my close friends feel exactly the same.

2 of those friends have been hospitalized over the last few weeks and I do not want anymore to suffer the same fate.

Interesting subject indeed, Loy Toy...Thanks for the added warnings...Like you said, you've seen it coming already...Nobody wants to live in fear, for sure...It limits your freedom dramatically...And you just can't be ready all the time, as much as you try to anticipate the dangers...And that's a tough way to live, anyway...

Outside your bunker, the meter's running, and the risk is higher...

Thatll take some skill to prod someone off a moving scooter with a baseball bat

Thailands tourist spots have always been rife with the shadiest of Thais who flock there with the sole purpose of ripping off tourists.

Sorry for your friend Loy Toy, but that reads to me like he was targetted in the 7/11 or whereever he bought his wife's supper. Did he pull a wad out of his pocket at the counter there? You should get someone to check the video playback from when he entered.

As I recall, between 2008-10 there was a surge of similar incidents here in Phuket, with a high number of victims being farang. There were a spate of people being knocked off their bikes and robbed, particularly between Kata and Rawai (a quiet road, with next to no lighting). I particularly remember a Norwegian tanker captain who was on his way home to Rawai from Kata, who was stabbed to death.

This was also the period when the Western tourists were getting thin on the ground due to the GFC, and there seemed to be a lot of (Thai) people out of work.

Most farang who live here are immune from the ups and downs of the Thai economy, and don't need political encouragement to find happiness. This enhances the 'rich' image that most Thais, young ones in particular, seem to have of us, and hence we are all potential targets. Burglary, assault and robbery, and not least scamming from those supposedly employed to provide civic order and protection (BiB).

I'd particularly raise the use of ATM's. They're a great source of revenue for someone who needs money and doesn't care who's account it's been withdrawn from. Plan to only have enough money with you for what you know you're going to spend, and avoid using them in the evening/late at night.

Shit is ready to hit the fan globally. Thailand has that extra special ingredient which seems to be about added to the mix very soon right as the global economy is about to shit itself again. This time should be fun now that everyone is up to their ears in debts for new cars, condos and phones.

Just watched a short talk by Steve Keen (who, for those who don't know, was one of the few economists to predict the 2007/8 financial crisis in advance) and he includes Thailand in his list of future debt-zombies. The country is in good company though (China, France, S. Korea, Canada, Australia, Norway, etc., etc.) so perhaps it's moving up in the world.

fuck off you idiot. what do you know.

i have had more contact with a wider variety of thais than you have had hot dinners. and interacting with thai of the chickenhead class is an exercise in futility.

Hold the phone!!!! Peeps ought to be aware but the pavement surface in Second Road is really uneven and I very nearly twisted my ankle quite badly. Shock-fucking-horror, eh?

Jesus H Christ, there have been late night muggings around the dark side of Pattaya for fucking years and anyone who lives there but is still unaware of the danger is a fucking idiot. Same-same hanging around Pratumnak Hill late at night is fraught with danger for chickenhead and farang alike.

It's a third world country with a huge disparity in incomes and a shit police force, so just what the fuck do folk expect. And it has been going on for years. A particularly nasty crew were working Bangkok's inner district over six years ago mugging folk in the early - mid evening - some may recall they hit on Bruce Gaston and put him in hospital. They finally nailed the gang but the crime will always persist.
