I could do with some hobbies too. Spend way too much time on the net.
I'm in Shanghai, plenty to do. Not so much nature-wise.
How isolated are you?
I'll be down in July or August. I guess it'll be cooler but rainy, with potential for typhoons? It's just too hot to do anything outside
(I enjoy rain to be honest, over 35c weather)
^Yes, rainy season and cooler. Typhoons? Hard to predict. Last year was almost typhoon-free.
Have you considered brass rubbing in churches Davis? Plenty of churches, so I would assume plenty of brasses to rub.
^^Davis doesn't need a part-time job. He doesn't need the $, he could pay the managers of Jollibee their wages!
If Davis needs a distraction, I can offer him my mom's chickens in the province. They're my mom's hobby. They're almost ready for "harvest", so Davis can bring his guns & shoot da chikkunz. There's maybe 10 of them & they're free-range. Moving targets. Davis can also "dress" the chooks after killing. I'll give him one as a freebie for his dinner.
That's quite good, katie...Let's wait for his response...
gardening...going to plant maybe good for your cook
My hobby seems to be running around after my 4 daughters, two grandaughters,6 female cats, taking the 2 female dogs for runs daily...
Grand daughter turned up with a s/h Toyota Yaris..dents fenders, bonnet, tailgate, interior.seats, carpet, scruffy..only done 100000 kms..got it for a good price.
I bought a unlicensed..no engine body, same colour..did a complete swap of all the panels, small parts, interior..etc.. donor car cost..$600..
So I guess my hobby is being a Dad...everybody happy..and I got to cook the barby..
Get a camera, have a look at the butterfly, bird, wild animals, photo a week and flowers photos on this and other sites.
Take photos of whatever interests you, when its to hot or wet to go out learn to edit the photos you have taken and post them on web sites including this one.
This thread's already been cleared of your brainless crap once today.
Davis you said you read a lot so do I
Very rarely watch TV
I have always fancied writing a book (don't laugh)
You seem to be a well travelled guy who has seen abit
Why not try to write a book of your life or a short story loosely based on your experience
The structure would be hard I suppose but plenty of people have done it why not you
I would buy it
That's just my tuppence worth
I would like to learn about Asian antiquities that must be in and around these villages
I bet there is some gems that would make a fortune in USA and Europe
I would like to get an old 1950s motorbike and really do a good rebuild nuts and bolt
I have not got the skills to do any of the above but it's how I see myself when I get to retirement
Good luck man
They're almost ready for "harvest", so Davis can bring his guns & shoot da chikkunz.
Short lived hobby.
We used to just wait till dusk when they are roosting. The gf would just pick them up bind their feet and slit their throats. Bleed them into a bowl for later and then. Well the rest gets pretty sick.
An excuse for me to drink more. The weeks leading up to that were more of a hobby.
I like the book idea. I've always thought someday I'd do that myself. Right now though I'm in the middle of redoing one of my rental properties. It's kinda a hobby.
This one is vacant and has been for awhile. Just painted the bathroom canary yellow. Back in 2010 I replaced the old cast iron tub with a new Kohler one and tiled the bath after replacing the window with glass block. Replaced all the galvanized water pipe in the whole place with copper.
Next will be a new kitchen counter and some track lighting that I allread wired in. I had to snake up the power ect. Im on my own time and could care less about the time it takes. Like I said it's a hobby. Not only that but the place will be worth twice what I paid for it. Not that I'm flipping it.
Got to be some good fishing in the Philippines. Just sayen.

My kids birthdays are coming up so I'm going to get them R/C cars - those proper Tamiya ones that you can assemble and paint.
Since I need to buy two anyway I figure I might as well go the whole hog and get three. Because races, that's why.
But I hasten to add that it's all for the kids!
That it is. I helped my cousin by editing just one chapter of his novel - it was a complete pain in the arse and after everything his publisher/editor cut it from the published book.Originally Posted by Davis Knowlton

As an adolescent with newspaper route earnings I subscribed and avidly read the Sporting News from pillar to post as I was a baseball addict (circa early 60s).
Chess is another hobby that can turn into a passion from ones armchair...www.chess.com
I believed that sex as a hobby would last 4evr...but it runs out as one runs out of juice financially, physically or spiritually. Still enjoyed but just not all day loooong .
I almost forgot as you're in the Phillipines which has hot, humid weather which should be fine for many orchids out of direct sunlight. Grafting, splicing and propogating various varieties of orchids to create your very own Knowlton hybrid strain that will outlive your earthly days.
Some botanists have succumbed to a passion akin to orchid fever.
I have friend who is cultivating pineapples. Of course he likes pineapple daiquiris and mojitos ;-)
The book should explain proper PH and npk mixes. Grafting? Washington State? Amsterdam?
Damn, what a book it be. Pineapple? I just stick to fishing, thank you very much. Fish out.
Wow Davis, all that and you need a hobbie. We all should be that illplacant. Ok, mabey that's the wrong word. In fact I know it is. When they let me out Im happy just to stroll around the grounds a while.
Just kidding as I always do but heck it doesn't sound like you're to boxed in.
If it were me I'd take a liking to what my children were doing, ie boxing, kwondo , schooling ect and weave it into my daily routine. Teach what you've been taught so to speak. They will remember for that and after all what could be worth more than that. To all of you for that matter.
Fish got soft sorry, must have been in the sun too long.

When I was 15 or 16 years old I used to help set up the rink at the Eagles Club down town Milwaukee for the tough man competitions. What fun it was. My X brother in laws trainer won a bought back then. The guy had his own school. Tom "T" Hall was his name. All the guys were larger than life to me then.
So what am I saying? Where am I going?
Be the ball Danny. Set up the rink and be the ball. Va va va va va.
