I've always liked Americans, good people, friendly.....

or should I say I've been scared of Americans, in bad areas of town they can make you feel threatened.....

or should I say I've been annoyed by their narrow mindedness and bigoted ideas....

or should I say I've been astonished by their dreaminess, able to concentrate on causes that just mean nothing in the scheme of things.....

or should I say, that there are Americans of all types out there like there are from all other countries, some I like and some I don't just like all other countries.....I have my opinion about some of their views, but I try not to offend some for the sake of discussing a few.... Americans are just people at the end of the day!!

Maybe they are trying to suss out whether you are liberal or a conservative.

Same as Brits/Aus/Kiwi/Saffas/Canadians and any other English speaking expats you might meet. Some will be ok and some will give you a reason to avoid them. I don't believe they are oversensitive at all. They may have some issues with the general criticism of their home country, simply because there are 320m of them and they have a big footprint in world affairs. Some of it is good, but the bad stuff gets all the attention. No surprise if someone gets defensive occasionally.

Well that sounds okay for me, especially as it seems we are getting together this weekend. One lonely Yank it looks like.

What a joke. I run the other way around brits and aussies because they always bring up U.S. politics, a subject I have no desire to discuss with anyone in person, especially Americans.

    Yeah but who really does.

We're all stuck with the governments/politicians that we deserve to some extent or other.

There are many ways in which you can rebel against any system. Take your time, act carefully and leave no trace of your involvement.

Wear silk panties under your jeans, eat red meat, artistically spray a security camera or two ( make sure there are not others around filming you )

Like he said, don't know shit about BBQing.
You have your hot plate and your grill (where the meat is exposed directly to the fire.)

    BBQ Aussie style

As we have now entered the BBQ season it is important to refresh your memory on the etiquette of this sublime outdoor cooking activity . When a man volunteers to do the BBQ the following chain of events are put into motion:

    (1) The woman buys the food.

    (2) The woman makes the salad, prepares the vegetables, and makes dessert.

    (3) The woman prepares the meat for cooking, places it on a tray along with the necessary cooking utensils and sauces, and takes it to the man who is lounging beside the grill – beer in hand.

    (4) The woman remains outside the compulsory three meter exclusion zone where the exuberance of testosterone and other manly bonding activities can take place without the interference of the woman.

    Here comes the important part:

    (5) THE MAN PLACES THE MEAT ON THE GRILL.

    (6) The woman goes inside to organise the plates and cutlery.

    (7) The woman comes out to tell the man that the meat is looking great. He thanks her and asks if she will bring another beer while he flips the meat

    Important again:

    (8) THE MAN TAKES THE MEAT OFF THE GRILL AND HANDS IT TO THE WOMAN.

    (9) The woman prepares the plates, salad, bread, utensils, napkins, sauces, and brings them to the table.

    (10) After eating, the woman clears the table and does the dishes

    And most important of all:

    (11) Everyone PRAISES the MAN and THANKS HIM for his cooking efforts.

    (12) The man asks the woman how she enjoyed ‘ her night off ‘, and, upon seeing her annoyed reaction, concludes that there’s just no pleasing some women!

^ That is grilling. Any sod can turn on a grill and throw some meat on it. American BBQ is a science.

They close for the winter but just may be open in time for your trip. Have to take 90 across the pass to Roslyn...(the town that the tv show Northern Exposure was filmed.)

Well worth the trip even if they are not open the town and area are beautiful.

South American churrasco is all good, particularly the good garlicy blood sausages they do. I crave it and it is all over on the other side of the world. No idea when I will get back over there.

You don't necessarily have to misskit. There's enough South Africans, Brazilians, whatever here in CM that it's almost like a U.N. of BBQing.

My last churrasco was here a couple of weeks back.

Oh dear, someone disagrees with you, has a different opinion and you start with the name calling?

Should I have given you a trigger warning?
Maybe you'd like a safe space now where everyone agrees with you?

(P.S. see the title of this thread. Proven.)
    Wasn't even criticizing you.

Yeah, probably so - the only colonials that have this devil-may-care and tolerant way about 'em.....generally speaking.

Are you suggesting that American attitudes to criticism are the reverse of Australian attitudes?

Ask and ye shall receive: Aussies are kunts! If they could change themselves to be better winners and better losers, especially in sporting contexts, the'd be pretty nice folk, imho. I hope that helped...

I work with lots of Americans and American managers, and even though I've met many nice Americans and one cannot generalize, I will not ever accept another job working under American management or with so many American colleagues.
