Quite chuffed to have gotten out and invested in wheel coin when I did.

That could change though. Plus wheel coin's taking a fecking age to get done!

^ Should be some opportunity for steady short-term profits.

The value will likely keep going round and round.

At least half of last year's price boom for Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies was prompted by price manipulation
    Is Bitcoin Really Un-Tethered?

    Abstract

This paper investigates whether Tether, a digital currency pegged to U.S. dollars, influences Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency prices during the recent boom. Using algorithms to analyze the blockchain data, we find that purchases with Tether are timed following market downturns and result in sizable increases in Bitcoin prices. Less than 1% of hours with such heavy Tether transactions are associated with 50% of the meteoric rise in Bitcoin and 64% of other top cryptocurrencies. The flow clusters below round prices, induces asymmetric autocorrelations in Bitcoin, and suggests incomplete Tether backing before month-ends. These patterns cannot be explained by investor demand proxies but are most consistent with the supply-based hypothesis where Tether is used to provide price support and manipulate cryptocurrency prices.

I bailed into USDT from my stellar holdings last weekend
used some of it to pay my colo costs and was going to get back into XLM when I think this current dip has bottomed

USDT is a worry as it is supposed to be backed 1 to 1 with USD , but there have been quite a few examinations of that claim who have found it wanting - hopefully I can be out of it before it implodes

Just noticed you can pay for HDPrime with BTC now.

So for 1 BTC, you can watch up to the quarter finals of the WC.

You're still using HDPrime?. For what??!. Get a IPTV box pre-loaded with all the latest apps and you'll want for nothing when it comes to live sports, tv, movies etc. What's available has improved out of sight in the last year, and there's support available via email, online forum, and text by people who seriously know their shit. It'd mean a trip to Pattaya and a demo by a Farang before you buy which is all a bit dodgy, but you've met some rozzer dodger here before buying pies so I can't see this bothering you .

PM if you need details, and keep your BTC for other things in the future like Lambos.

Just use it for the football. D/L any movies/TV series via torrents. Pornhub for porn. TD for annoying people. Don't think I really need anything else.

Not sure of the current status, but around 5-6 months ago watched a debate during which someone who 'appeared' to know about cryptos and the law suggested there was little to stop tether simply folding and disappearing with billions of dollars.

Otoh, there's also the USgov to contend with, esp if they decide to find plausible grounds to freeze tether trading and ops...zero notice, all funds frozen indefinitely during which it disappears, cryptos in freefall...

That's the downside, against BTC hitting a gazillion.

Why would anyone pay in BTC for this or a pizza or a bj? Being invested in BTC implies a belief it will rise, so the satoshis you pay today will in time be costing you more.

Maybe this is how the crypto bubble ends: not with a burst, but with a whimper.

    BBB

Bitcoin is down 50 per cent, and that's not nearly the worst of it

By the end of 2017 it seemed like the sky was the limit for cryptocurrency, with prices ballooning to almost unfathomable new heights.
But over the course of this year, we have seen a relatively steady overall deflation of crypto coin prices and market capitalisation.

The combined market capitalisation of the top 50 largest cryptocurrencies has dropped over $387 billion this year, a decline of over 53 per cent.
Today, 90 per cent of these top coins are worth less than they were at the start of the year.

Maybe this is how the crypto bubble ends: not with a burst, but with a whimper.

Our fingerprints never fade from the lives we touch

I can’t claim prescience, just dumb luck and fortunate timing, but given all that’s happened recently I’m glad I got out when I did.
