Stupid Lonely Planet "thorn tree" topics

    Hi All
We have lost our camera in Phi Phi. Insurance covers the camera, but lots of beautiful photos are gone. If you know of anyone who has found one, seen or heard of something, please let me know. It was a Canon Ixus850 in a brown camera pouch rom Crumbler.

    Thx
    Peter

Talk about hoping. Buy a new camera on the insurance ****face.

I have just booked a flight to go to BKK on the 30th December to 22nd January, this will be my second time in Thailand and im concerned that the novelty will have worn off. I want to know how it has been for other people second time around. Thank you xxx

It'll be the same you fool, you'll head straight to Khao Sarn Road and mingle with the other wankers. you'll probably love it, too.

Two days ago I was drinking some buckets with my boyfriend, his sister and her boyfriend on Khao San rd in Banglamphu, Bangkok. After a while my sister in law really needed to go to the toilet and we went into a bar/restaurant/guesthouse (Chart Guesthouse 58-62 Khao San Road, Banglamphu). The waitresses weren't looking friendly so I sat down and stared at the menu for a while, while my sister in law went to the toilet. When she returned I walked to the toilet.
While I was sitting on the toilet someone came in and asked "What are you doing." I thought she wasn't talking to me so I didn't reply. Then she tried to kick my toilet door open and screams "Do you want to die?". So I answer "What's wrong?".
When I came out of the toilet a waitress was standing there with a full bucket in her hands. She's really angry and asks me why I didn't order something and where my table is.
I walk back to the table and tell her that this is my table. By now there are about 6 angry waitresses standing around me. I would have wanted to pay if they wouldn't have asked me if I wanted to die. I panicked already and just wanted to get out ...

Next time ask, and pay the 20 Baht charge that is levied for non customers. You don't just waltz into any bar like you own the gaff.

Does anyone else really struggle with this site?

I know when it comes to the internet Thailand is still 10 years in the last century, but I would've thought a company the size of Thai airways would be able to maintain a decent connection.

6 months ago when I was booking a flight through the website I couldn't get it past the stage where you've found your flights and click submit to get it booked. It took me about 5 days, trying all sorts of different times of the day before I could push my booking through.

This time I'm having similar issues, I want to log in to the frequent flyer program to check it out, but it won't let me past the stage where I click on submit.

Anyone have any ideas of the best time of day to use this piece of junk? I noticed I can go to thaiairways.com.au, but when I go to do something which requires the backend I end up on the same old crappy servers anyway.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, last time I missed the initial flight I wanted to get and had to settle for a different one

Next time try using a computer.

    Sawaadee!
I just relocate to chiang mai and will spend the next year or so studying thai culture, yoga, thai chi, music, dance, art, photography, cooking, massage, and of course to travel further thru out se asia.
any like minded people out there, living here or just passing thru you can contact me at elfomalo@hotmail.com or find me on tribe.net

Why not just cut out the middle man and go straight to the Text and Talk website?

Any one recomend any cheap hotels in Hat Yai? Also where are the best bars to meet girls?

Try the internet and then head for a girlie bar. There are plenty.

    Hi,

Has anyone done any Mahout training in Lampang or around Chiang Mai recently? I am looking at doing a 3 day course in Lampang around September this year but it is very expensive. Is it worth the money?

Yeah you can easily get a job back in the UK with such training. Way to go!

Right now in Saskatoon, Saskatchewn the temperature is 35C (95F), the humidity at 50% giving a humidex of 46C (heat Index of 115F).

It's unbelievably hot and humid.... It wasn't this hot in Bangkok when I was there in early April but feels indentical...sans air pollution.

Unfortunately, there is no cold Singha beer for sale here...

    And?

Very funny, however I agree about the thai aiways site - worst airline site I have ever had to deal with.

I tried booking through them last week and after 3 days gave up and booked through a travel agent in bangkok.

Krabi Area Stuff in 5 Days
Ok this is essentially a rehashing of several old threads, but there you go. I fly into Krabi on the 3rd of Aug, and out on the 9th- so I have FIVE full days in that area.

How would you split your time? At the moment I'm thinking 3 days Ko Phi Phi and 2 days West Railay. Has anyone been to both and prefers one over the other? I'm after relaxation rather than activities such as rock climbing, nice beach (obviously) and chilled atmosphere.

    Thanks!

or indeed - just go there relax and decide when to move then, its not like they are continents away or anything....

ood God, in Nov '01 it was almost 40 baht/dollar......my question to the long timers is....how badly do you feel the bite.....I mean once the price of a hotel room or a can of coke in 7/11 goes up, it never comes back down...I figure it still seems quite cheap compared to most places....and besides I love the place, danger and all

yep, danger is my middle name, and your right it bladdy hard when the price of coke goes up and up all the time.... just like the west really....

I am a 23 year old chick from Australia and I am planning my first trip to Thailand in August.

My question is that I am very promiscuous and I was wondering if it is hard to find other travelers that are up for a bit of fun between the sheets.

Any good places that I should not miss where like wise other would hang out.

and surely this is a Mad-dog or squierrl troll? otherwise tell her - go
CM - plenty of beach boys there....

i wonder why this thread was deleted? what if she was a man?

but if it were not for LP, most of the self proclaimed "Thailand experts" roaming around here would not have a source for their lectures.

Oh dear more stupid questions.....check for yourselves:
Asia - Thailand - Thorn Tree Forum - Lonely Planet

The page should start with this gem:

"Over the past few days i've run into a few people who have kind of killed my high on my trip.

I ran into a Brit at a local bar and he was telling me about how alert and on-guard you have to be all the time
while traveling bangkok.. now of course he was Mr. "it was my friend who went" so i was wondering what the case was.

I'm very street savy but i dont want to be overwhelmed when go.. and no im not the loud mouthed kid from the states
shooting his mouth off at the bar when im drunk..

any areas of the city to avoid? etc etc?? anything would be appreciated"

just what we need farangs wandering around up north getting lost!

Thought this might be of interest to some people on here, a book about trekking in the north without a guide. These sort of treks aren't something I've ever done - don't like the guided walk thing - but this book might get me to have a go on my own.

Trek it yourself in Northern Thailand: twenty-five Solo Jungle Treks on Foot and by Motorcycle
