    LOcal firewater.

    A nice tipple:
Was at a new year’s party BBQ etc on neighbors’ farm..Great fun..So many really nice people who seem to be forever laughing..
Great food and not a china plate or any fancy tableware in sight...Chaotic piles of plastic bowls and bags of food on any shaded surface...Guests just helped themselves...Built their own meals….
Anyways was offered a shot from an old whiskey bottle filled with clear alcohol...Wary but accepted a shot glass full. Bloody lovely, nothing like the expected Lao Koi. Slightly sweet, no eye watering burn.
Seems it is made from some palm fruit, palm sugar and yeast. I think if I had been given it out of a fancy bottle would think it an exotic expensive liqueur. Sold locally I understand by the kilo in plastic bags! Don’t know or care about its legality…but at 90 baht a kilo! A few years and some entrepreneur will export market it methinks.
Musta downed a few no headache or hangover although I hear that our local noodle vendor who was continually demanding that I match her shot for shot is in a bad way this am.
Must admit it packs a wallop though...I had to be driven the two clicks home.

Do you have a sore bottom, sometimes the only evidence of the intensity of the brew?

Getting the farang stunningly and paralytically drunk seems to be a popular sport up country.

I suppose the resident farangs find ways to avoid it, but I know my trips up country have been rather alcoholic.

But I do agree, some of that stuff being sold locally on the QT is very, very potable....

Had some home made absinthe in Lao 500kip(hefty 8 baht for legless)a shot couldn't walk after 4 yet a delicious taste.

Also an old gal right opp the security gates of the French Embassy with huge amphora jars at an outrageous 1000kip (which I think is about 4 baht )per hangover, all kinds of flavours Beerlaodrinker'll give you the steet its the only shop in the shade of the Tricolor.

Of course there may the price of a memory cells added in later!

Opened the fridge the other day, thought it was juice and a mouth full and nearly puked.

That would be Tuak. I don't think that was it as the OP states clear alcohol. So the brew was distilled.

More likely Arrack or a derivation of Feni.
