I just don't feel comfortable hugging my brother's 'partners'... they always laugh and say 'awkward hug time'...

Maybe after not seeing a loved-one for a really long time, sure... but we see each other fairly regularly - so I just don't think it's appropriate.

I guess I'm a shake hands kinda guy...

*Now hugging my Nana, that's a different cup of tea... she's 93 and adorable.. I hug her at every opportunity (love my Nana to bits)...

it is very common here in Mad - french style 3 kisses - I looked it up on the internet and apparently the amount of kisses varies across different regions across southern and eastern europe

I just only do it with the cute women who I want to grope - and every now and then I do an ear lick / slobber for the fun that ensues

When you ask someone "what's your partners name?" you're basically saying "are you a fag?" Am I right?

I'm not keen on 'partner' myself but using "partner" is common these days for adults who are not married, presumably because 50 or 60 year olds talking about their boyfriend and girlfriend sounds a bit odd to younger folk.

    Me three.

Just something a little... I dunno really, jarring? Unusual?

Anyways I've placed it firmly on my list of things to 'meh' about.

Maybe also because of the increased visibility of same-sex couples?

It's perhaps because there's a stigma attached to having partners called Elton.

I don't like 'partner' but I'll take it over 'significant other' any day.
But really, If you're not married how else would you introduce your ...?
Boyfriend/girlfriend? After a certain age that doesn't quite seem right.
Maybe T57 has it right. 'Handbag' for male introducing female 'partner'? as in "this is my handbag Noi"
The gent introducing his ladyboy 'wingman', "This is my wingman Somchai"
Woman introducing male 'partner? "This is my ...?" Patsy?

It's their partner as they all know that nowadays it's just a financial arrangement. That may or may not go bust in the future.

To live with a wife/husband until "death do us part" seems quaint now, a commitment of such, which they know they cant keep.

OK. If he doesn't know, a real man will ask the name but instantly chose to forget it. It's only conversation but in fact the in-and-out is all that matters.

No, no, no!! My sister's Dave is not Gravey not at all!!! Shit if he was, she would have divorced him decades ago!!

And i would always say boyfriend. Even if i am 52 years old, and he may be a bit older or younger. In French you say Copin - which means both friend or boyfriend.

I reckon contemporary conformities would be accepting the term "bitch" as a neutral and crossing-gender address...

Can certainly be used in male/female, male/male, female/female roles as a title of reference.

    Problem solved.
