So, if we assume a female becomes a 'woman' at 18, and the average female life expectancy in the UK is 82.7 years, there is on average a period of nearly 65 years of womanhood.

51% don't trim, so it could mean that all women do for about 32 years, or up until they're 50, then they all lose the scissors and let nature take its course.

OK, a few women die along the way so perhaps the cut off date is a bit lower, say 48, but here's the worrying thing:

This is a survey of British women, which include both the Welsh and the Scots who make up 13% of the population and, in my limited experience of the breeds, are unlikely to bother with taking care of the topiary, so what it means is that 51% of the British population less the 13% of Celtic descent = 38% of English women who don't trim, or in other words all women in England do so from their 18th birthday for 40 years.

Now they won't all be doing it year in and year out from the age of 18 to 58, in addition there will be some hippies, Cornish, and earthy feminist types who are either conscientious objectors or blissfully unaware that it might even be an option, so there must be some seriously old pensioners out there still avidly trimming away well into their seventies.

It's a horrible thought.
