You can imagine the stubborn Thai air execs

''falang say we have safety no good, Thai safety number one''

And that's about it. No effort to improve, of course.

Much ado about nothing.. Thai Airways hasn't flown flights into the US since this last October. This downgrade didn't hurt 'em except in loss of face.

The next ruling by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) is due out mid month. I believe that ruling, if unfavorable, will cripple them as they do a fair share of flights to the EU..

At least they are in good company (from the posted link):

The ICAO, a United Nations agency, "red flagged" Thailand in June over safety concerns, listing it alongside Angola, Botswana, Djibouti, Eritrea, Georgia, Haiti, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Malawi, Nepal, Sierra Leone and Uruguay.

Won't do their standing with the brethren airline alliance [Star Alliance] either, one that they use as a security factor.

I believe this downgrading rating could easily apply to Thailand domestic routes/carriers as well, as the airlines that fly regionally don't have the best of reputations overall as well.

Yet, the industry here [coupled with the corrupt governments] refuses to acknowledge any real issues that have existed for years, instead of the dream world that they have lived in for quite a time now - almost reflective of how they are handling the general economy and international relations.

I might remind some, if not known already, that Thai Airways is a majority royal holding and therefore the cause and effect of problems that go way back. Still looked upon as a novelty and not the viable international service business that it is [or once was].

Qantas is still the safest airline never ever losing a customer.

    Good to be an Aussie!

Air China [Beijing] or China Air [Taipei]..??

China Air has an outstanding reputation and record - service top notch.
    Great international carrier.

10-12 years ago, Air China was on the outside looking in - but today they are up there with the big boys.....their stereotypical reputation of yesteryear is no longer deserved.

I wonder if Thailand will ban other airlines from landing at Swampy in retaliation?

Years back I went out of my way to fly Thai. Now I avoid it like the plague. Not because of substandard maintenance but rather across the board a substandard operation. All a result of piss poor senior management. Retired senior air force officers who know less than zero about running a successful business. Shame really. They have turned a silk purse into a sow's ear.
