Murder - Real Close to Home

Wife has a group of ladies she works out with every day - all from our gated community. One of the ladies' husband was gunned down last night - right outside of the sub-division gate.

There's a gas station right outside the gate, with an adjoining lot used to park buses.

It seems that the husband owned and rented the lot to a local politician who hadn't paid rent for months. Husband apparently had a meeting scheduled last night to resolve the issue. He left home without telling his wife where he was going, and never returned.

Sub-division guards heard a number of shots around ten PM, but didn't venture outside of the gates to investigate as they thought the firing was coming from the Air Force base across the street.

His wife went looking for him at first light this AM, and found his body crouched behind his car door on the side of the lot. He had been shot eleven times. No witnesses. No weapon.

But, several hours later, the cops pulled an image from the gas station CCTV. The individual, who appears to be following the husband, allegedly has been identified as one of the politician's bodyguards. The gas station nighttime guard is nowhere to be found.

Too bad. He was a decent guy. My wife is at the wife's house now.

Lots of guns around here. RIP

Rule of thumb throughout Asia - don't get involved in business with politicians, elites, or associated mafia types.

Will be interesting to see how this plays out. The victim's wife is from a wealthy, prominent family here - big landowners and developers. In fact, they owned the land on which my sub-division - now close to 400 homes - was built.

Wife just got home. It's eight rounds, not eleven. Gas station guard has turned up, but claims he heard noises, went and looked, but saw nothing.

CCTV also got the alleged shooter's motorcycle plate. It is the bodyguard. He's in the wind.

Not in the same league, but in all of my years traveling on business and pleasure in Africa, S & N America, Europe, Asia, Oz and NZ . . . the only time I was mugged was in Manila - at knifepont - it really is the most dangerous place around

Murder at the doorstep . . . amazing Asia

Only place I ever had a hand gun put to my head (twice) anywhere in Asia was in the PI.

    Stay safe Davis.

Please do not rely on his word. I am confused because you claimed to work in security there.

^Not sure what you're on about, Snub. I have absolutely nothing to do with this investigation, and whether or not I believe the security guard is immaterial.

I do have a security business in Manila, and have for the past 15 years, but we do specialized work and have never had anything to do with security guards.

Indeed. It's been quite a shocker here. It's a fairly tight-knit community...I've lived here 13 years. The victim's wife was one of the 8 ladies who went on a recent trip to Korea with my wife. I had met the victim a few times, but really didn't know him very well. People here are quite upset...my wife is currently at another gathering, as his kids and other relatives arrive from the US.

^I reckon. The victim's extended family is quite influential locally; the politician allegedly involved is running for Vice-Mayor in the upcoming local election.

    Should be interesting.

We read about this stuff all the time. Always a shocker when someone we know gets offed.
Friend of mine sells armored cars in SEA. Says the PI is his best market.

Really Jeff? How many Asian businesses do you have then? And pray tell, how would you not rent land to a politician if he said he wanted to rent it?

To close out the thread, the case was dropped. No witnesses, no evidence. Guard who heard shots but didn't bother to investigate has moved on. Motorcycle guy caught on CCTV has no evidence to hold him. The guy who probably ordered it is walking around free.

    Case closed.
