    Anyone for a cuppa?

Intersting that the Chines word for tea is 'cha', as in the cha lady, I wonder if that's where it came from? (do English offices still have the cha lady).
I prefer hong cha (red tea, nlack to us) and get it from my friends specialist tea shop. he won't accept payment but it's the most richly flavoured tea I've ever had and never fails to hit the spot. It comes out of a big sack and I get it by the bagful.
Sometimes a cup of tea's just a cup of tea but sometimes..... well, sometimes it's JUST right.
    Do Americans drink tea?

I drink the M & S Red in bags... very nice it is too and not that expensive. Their Earl Grey is also darn good. I drink maybe 4 or 5 cups of tea per day.

No. Different origin. The "Char" in Charlady has its roots in the word "chore". The origin was a woman hired to do odd jobs (around the house or office), which include often making tea.....

In the US South people drink sweetened black tea on ice more than any other beverage.

Americans in general tend to be coffee drinkers, not tea drinkers.

Just the plain 'ole Lipton yellow label, no milk or sugar, for me.

    I don't got a very sophisticated palate.

    Generally speaking:

Peoples who originally got their supply of "Tea" overland call it Cha, which is the original Cantonese word or chai which is Persian.

Peoples who got their supply by sea (Europe), got it from the port of Xiamen, which is in southern Fujian province. There the Amoy word for it is Te or tê.

I'm a heathen I drink Lipton from teabags in the yellow box (7/11). Although during my only time in China I did buy some real green tea for $100+plus a bag. I figured if I'm only here once I might as well buy some of the best! Little pea sized balls that expanded into leaves when infused.

The lady has nothing to do with tea. As has been said she is a chore-woman.
Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?
I apologize if any offence was caused. unless it was intended.

Lots of Chinese words in the Thai language. Not surprising really.

Including other bastardized language influences from Lao, Khmer, and Mon [among other that have trickled through].

Earl Grey is like drinking perfume, what an odd way you have picked to come out of the closet.

I always bring back as many Tetleys tea bags as I have room for. A cockney mate who has been my saviour many a time, grumbles when he has to use anything else.

    Rarely touch the stuff meself.

Agreed. Perfumed tea, earl grey is aweful and probably only appeals to poofters for whom the real flavour of tea is too strong.
Tea is tea, if you prefer yours perfumed or flavour enhanced then you're not really doing it right. Though I did mistakenly once buy a bag of lychee flavoured tea, which once you accepted the fact that it was lychee flavoured wasn't actually too bad.
Took a LONG time to finish it though.

Although during my only time in China I did buy some real green tea for $100+plus a bag.
I hope that was a 50kG sack. if not you got stiffed.
Can't take too much of that Chinese green tea myself though I don't mind a good kong fu cha.

    Interesting. Thanks.

In Arabic, tea is shay (شاي), so I guess they originally got theirs overland.

I just got back from a couple of weeks in Blighty and bought 800 tea bags back with me.

I like tea and I drink lots of it, no milk or sugar.

    Hate coffee.

I like Ahmads evening tea which you can pick up in the Bangkok stores supermarkets, has a touch of Bergamot to just tweak the flavour nicely. Earl Grey though, is disgusting.

The Russians call tea Chai, they squeeze a few lemon drops into it.
