    Coffee ?

Coffee , or more to the point these bloody rip off coffee shops selling what a spoon of brown coloured granules + hot water in a cardboard cup.

I have never understood why people pay so much money for this crap

This is around 2 - 2.50p per cup of basic coffee in these places Starbucks , Nero , Costa etc

I had a taste of the wifes coffee in Costa once and it was disgusting stewed stuff

Can anyone tell the difference in any coffee ? I can't

Poundland do over 3 varieties now and I have tried them all and as I only drink mine black with no milk or sugar I can actually taste the coffee I drink about 3 cups per day .

My friends pay around 4 for the same size jar of coffee with a designer label on it

What an overrated rip off !

BTW Poundland also do a very acceptable coffee mate and 2 kilo bags of sugar .

When my mates come round I make them big steaming mugs of it with a drop of milk 2 teaspoons of sugar + 2 of coffee mate .

They all say how delicious it tastes
I'm proud of my 38" waist , also proud I have never done drugs

I drink only local coffee, grown here in Batangas province. Black only..no cream or sugar. A month's supply costs the same as a cup of Starbuck's crap.

Cardboard cups? Was it a takeaway? Sit in Starbucks, Costa or Nero and you'll get a proper cup.

As for granules, not in Starbucks, Costa or Nero. They use boiling water/hot steam over freshly ground beans. Espresso

Yes, I can. I drive six miles when I want to drink the best coffee around, walk half a mile for the second best cuppa around and stay at home for a cup of cheap and cheerful instant.

I have never tried Poundland coffee but I assume it is instant coffee granules. There's a wide range of coffee granules on sale. I agree that some of them taste awful. Like most things, you just have to find one you like.

I never use Coffeemate in fresh coffee. It ruins the taste for me. I prefer it with fresh whole milk, but each to their own.

I only drink the pretentiously expensive stuff that's been shat out of a bunch of Indonesian ferrets that are kept in little cages.

is it the same amount as you would get with an expresso and everyone uses the same glass

so I supply my own cup and get a double

Everyday as I look down from the cab of my truck ,, amongst other unmentionables I see in peoples cars + vans I see so many of them balancing cups of coffee in the morning from Costa , its almost like a daily drug to some of them .

I don't need it for caffeine to keep me awake , I drink it because I was told it has health cleansing properties if you drink it black .

Near to where I live on the west side of Colchester a couple of years ago in an out of town shopping area they built a huge Costa , its packed inside + out most days as I drive past , then just this year about 1000 yards away from this one they Costa have now built a bloody drive in .

When punters are paying 2 a cardboard cupful its easy to see why

Thinking on I suppose these days a chunk of the British GDP must be down to coffee ,, it seems every other shop is either Costa or a Pret's

All part of our non manufacturing / service industry run on the min wage

I don't expect many of you lads will remember these places but back in the day my dad used to take a coffee in here ,, Lyons coffee houses , often built around corner plots ,, the Starbucks of they're day I suppose

Think of the price of a barrel of coffee compared with a barrel of oil, even at its low price...

If your car ran on coffee, you'd have to park it...

The Cafe Amazon's are great value for money coffee shops in Thailand.

Try and stop at the service station, the one with the McDonalds on your way from Pattaya to Bangkok, the queues are huge.

I like the occasional hot Mocha at the coffee bean and tea leaf on my way home from a night out They do a lovely egg club sandwich.

I have one of these at home Nige, I haven't used it for ages. I'm sure you'd pass out if you saw how much the capsules cost

I don't understand the rant, some people have just never developed a taste for good coffee and then question why other people like it. Perfectly brewed, high quality black coffee is a luxury that I enjoy whenever I can. I love Starbucks, it is far better than any of the others. Starbucks does 8 billion in worldwide sales, they must be doing something right. Moccana Espresso instant coffee is what I drink at home and it is better than most instants.

Coffee is coffee. You can choose whatever brand you want, instant or espresso, home or away. It's subjective innit?

If you are caught short almost anywhere in the world, McDonalds does a decent standard brew from a machine. The food might be questionable but the coffee is consistent, cheap and drinkable.

Have you ever seen a Thai drinking a proper cup of hot coffee? Seems all they drink is higly sugared milky iced confections.

You're not supposed to use boiling water in coffee, Nige.

They do. It must be a culture/climate thing. But I don't think Nigel has an issue with that, just the trend for corporate high priced brands, when cheaper alternatives are avilable.

I would not go as far as he does personally, but an early moring brew is essential for me. At a push, even cheap instant is better than nothing. Like I said it's very subjective.

Of course the coffee makes itself, milk & sugar cost nothing, nor does electricity, they don't pay rent, the chairs and tables were free and nobody cleans up after you.
