I had he same thought when I first saw it. I bought their Pale ale (watery less than piss) and stout (not very). "Sparkling Ale??" Sounded like something you'd serve the women. I gave it a pass the first few times I saw it. After about 4 - 5 months, finally gave it a try, Best of the lot. Good hop/malt flavors, light brown slightly cloudy Not as "sparkling" as the name would indicate tastes best when allowed to warm up a bit. it took me months to try it and then only out of desperation. Now when they get an order in, I buy as many as my little beer box will hold.

Well, I just drank a can and I was wrong. It's not sweet. It's bitter. But, it's not a nice hoppy sort of bitter, it's more of a metallic bitter. When I bought it the owner of the mini-mart (a Leo drinker) exclaimed "Archa!?! After I paid and was walking away he repeated, "Chok dii, chok dii".

Slightly under 5%, similar strength to Leo. Yes, nice in a hot climate.

For the Lagers readily available in country I'd go with Tiger, Lao or SM or Heineken light beers you can drink all night with ice with nary a danger of drunkeness. Great for a night out in the shady part of town. Usually start an evening with a couple large bottles of Chaang to get a buzz on, then sip one of the above the rest of the night 4:00 AM, still have that same two-Chaang buzz I started with.

None of 'em a real beer, tho. More like 7up, they can be refreshing on a hot day but so is cold water.

I'd bought four cans of the Archa so ran out to a different mini-mart to buy some Chang to get the taste out. The owners there asked me if I'd tutor their quite attractive, 20 YO daughter in English weekends. Of course. How much money do you want. Well, I don't want money....

Now I'm back on the porch finishing the Archa and working out my lesson plan.

Like you can imagine him, in film noi mode, wandering the late night, mostly empty streets of Chiangmai seeking out a muted card game, a lonely lady of the evening or an elusive pack of smokes.

I heard Thai-brewed beer contains alot of formaldehyde. Whatever, after awhile, these brews gave me horrendous hangover headaches, broken sleep and MadDog's "impending doom" feeling. Beer Lao was good. I stick to wine now.

Urban legend. A friend of mine runs an environmental testing lab in Bangkok with all the latest gear. Just for kicks they tested a number of Thai beers for formaldehyde and found none.

Sorry to butt in (Frankie is my dad, after all), but Coopers is sold here at Tops, Carrefour & Villa, as well as Rim Ping in Chiang Mai.

A few Aussie bars sell it as well, but they seem to be a bit poor at keeping it in stock.

The importer is on Rama IV. I was going to buy a case of the stout until I actually tasted the stuff.

^ could be French, not sure.

In Singapore, you can get anything, but I missed the old Carlesberg, can't get much these days in Bangkok. It's really becoming a shit hole. Need to get out soon. Another 2 years in that dump.

I will be back in Singapore for sure, even that nice Japanese BBQ like we had is not that nice here

It is, although it's in a region that likes to have its borders changed every 50 years or so.

It's also brewed in the UK. A staple lager in Greene King pubs if I remember correctly.
