    CCM's or Cheap Canadian Males.

CCM's - what is it with them? They tend to be even cheaper and weirder than normal english teachers.

Meet one tonight, had gone to the movies with a bunch of friends, on the way out my galfriend saw an old colleague, so it was all hellos and blah, blah. Colleague then calls her boyfriend/husband over to meet and greet also, we chat for about 5-10 minutes, the usual sort of things... "how long you been here?", "what do you do?" etc.

The introduction conversation begins coming to a natural end and he quickly panics and asks me,

"what sort of things am i involved in? Do I play golf?"

"Yeah, I do, just ask CMN"

so he says, "how about I get your number?"

he then says "next time your doing something, give me a call."

Problem is he's been he six years, myself just the one year, shouldn't it be the other way around? Doesn't he have any friends?

I'm not trying to be rude, but its not like we really hit it off or anything....

^ its sort of a package deal, really.

I have no real idea if he is cheap or not. However, he told me he teaches science at some such school I never heard of and then said he never wants to teach english again now that he's got into a science gig.

So means he aint at an International school for a start, and therefore his pay is going to be somewhat limited.

Perhaps he is really generous and I'm being a little petty. Just making a comment, like. Dats all.

Did he ask to borrow any money?

    Now that would be cheap.

I always ran the other way when I saw Canadian "teachers" overseas. They get a degree in social studies or home ec, realise nobody will hire them, excpt maybe as a greeter at Walmart, because they are major geeks. They always end up marrying an Asian girl who wants to get away, and they end up back in Moose Jaw, where he gets a career as a bus driver. Seen it many times. Save your sanity, MrT; do not meet him again.

Maybe most of the other expats he meets in Jakarta are of dubious standards, or lacking in commonality to him, and he recognised our mrT as a rare man of exceptional quality and fine taste in the 10 minutes he spent talking to him.

Just throwing another angle out there....

Thank you kindly, MrT. There is a perfect match for this hosebag in the newbies section: a guy is looking for wheeltread hamsters for his teaching abroad study project (OK, ESL focus but same same).
