the reason i'm asking here is i see a few people seem to work over there.
There are about 120-140,000 American contractors in Iraq. Also, there are Europeans, Philippinos, and other nationalities there.
There are also "contractor forums" on the internet for Iraq, if you google.
An acquaintence of mine was a long time English teacher where I live. Just turned 50. He got a job in Afghanistan on a compound, and has been doing it for 2 years. He's very happy. And he's making coin.

I think being able to "stick it out" and not bail, is just as and even a little more important, than specific experience in a particular field, for most jobs.
