do english or europeans work in construction in iraq.

we are a contract carpentry company uk based, and through the internet we have had BofQ's and enqueries from some big firms to work in iraq.

is this for real

the reason i'm asking here is i see a few people seem to work over there.

Let me know if you need a European laborer for $500 up a day.

Good money, too, but no the safest place to work in the world. No worse than any other raghead country though.

I've worked in other "raghead" countries and never had to worry about being kidnapped if I left the house.

The decision is, am I getting paid enough to risk my life ? So "US$1000" a day maybe isn't enough.

There are about 120-140,000 American contractors in Iraq. Also, there are Europeans, Philippinos, and other nationalities there.



Philippinos are banned from their own government to go to Irak following the hostage taking a few years ago...

The philippino passports receive a stamp in it "Not valid for Iraq"...

There are always exeptions to the rules, but i think no one of them is actually there...

There are also "contractor forums" on the internet for Iraq, if you google.

An acquaintence of mine was a long time English teacher where I live. Just turned 50. He got a job in Afghanistan on a compound, and has been doing it for 2 years. He's very happy. And he's making coin.

I think being able to "stick it out" and not bail, is just as and even a little more important, than specific experience in a particular field, for most jobs.

i have a problem about pricing in this country.
i know what we can get away with in the uk, but how much to load the prices as per the danger element ??.

in the uk average earnings are £900 per week, 5 days

But another thing to consider is they ain't doing a 40 hr week, when we work it is generally 7/12s,,2 shifts a day, and on monthly or bi-monthly rotations.
Sometimes you go out for 6 months and have 6 weeks off and back for another 6 months.
Just depends on what sched. they want to work..

fair enough bgang, if the money reflects the work even better as it should end up being a good saving scheme for a year or two.

i'm doing some searching and googling but can not get any idea about earnings or prices, any leads
