What should I do as a newbie to Thailand

I'm but a newbie here in Thailand. Loving the country so far, and looking forward to put some roots down; and that's where I could use some help. First of is a job. Problem is a don't want to TEFL, don't see much money there and what I can give the kids without being a real teacher is questionable. I guess I could apply at large companies and just hope I get lucky. I also want to move out of the hotel and move into a condo. I'm staying on Soi 4 and to be honest I would feel a bit red faced telling potential employers to contact me at my hotel. It's hardly the place you would take the wife and kids! I have enough money to enjoy myself for 6 months if I play my cards right. Any places in Thailand you would recommend checking out?

you very unlikely to get a job other then TEFL

I would suggest arming yourself with some basic Thai - though an android phone with data and translate will help

then lighten your travel load and head to the bus station and travel around a bit

do this for a couple of months and head home before you get cnut struck or penniless.

work hard , save your pennies and come back and do it again

Are you married or single? Do you have kids in Thailand? How old are you? What did you come to Thailand to do? Work or retire?

That's not going to get you a life in Thailand, the sensible thing to do is to blow your money on liquor and whores and then go home.

Spend a bit on a good quality camera and do us a picxture thread of you whoring and pissing your life savings away. You might as well do this, OP, because it is a lot better than what will happen other wise..... marry a hooked in a week, she and her family syphon off all your cash and you build up debt to support the isaan mattress warrior, and when you are completely potless and your lines of credit have run out, they shop you up, and the police say it was suicide.

I was watching a TV show last week, "Heathrow, the World's Busiest Airport" or something. There was this mid-50s British fellow had just been deported from Thailand after 11 years on overstay, his Thai missus had thrown him out of "their" house and he was subsequently thrown out of her country.

The guy was penniless, sleeping in the airport terminal and trying to get some government benefits - the airport social worker would give him money for the bus each day. He was finally granted something after 15 days living in the airport terminal, and moved out into a boarding house.

I wish they had filled us in more on his back story.

Enjoy your 6 month holiday. Go back home and then work hard til your pension matures and then come back. Think long term.

Be careful. I already suggested that and my post was deleted.
Anyway, I doubt there a re jobs available for foreigners to just apply for as he seems to suggest is his want.
Maybe get in at a boiler room or as an English teacher, but as others have asked, what are his qualifications, field of work etc.

Strange ! It's exactly the place that I am taking my wife and kids to. Can't beat it. Nice breakfast, car parking and Skytrain.

Soi 4, a great place to take the wife & kids, especially if that's where you met your wife in the first place. .

Run off to the Isaan countryside [anywhere will do]....
Marry up with the first lass of questionable character that looks your way adoringly.

Too important to emphasize that she and her extended family should be dirt poor and her history/baggage fits accordingly. Everything else will naturally fall into place....

Why don't you consider a small business?

I was teaching Science in Thailand/Korat (part-time) while selling my own brand of skin care products in my free time. (not suggesting you sell cosmetics mate) just an example.

I was getting 30k for 12 contact hours per week. While nothing to write home about, I was making an additional 30-50k + per month from my skin care business.

So teaching paid the basic bills while I could save the money from my biz.

In my humble opinion, that's the only viable solution to actually being able to save money for the future there, otherwise you are just treading water.

When you think about it, 30k is only 1,000 bht per day...the bloke selling noodles from a cart on the corner was making that (and then some)... I think there are lots of opportunities to make money for an entrepreneurial guy/gal if you can think outside the box.

Why confine yourself to just teaching English? if you locked me in a room without an income or any money whatsoever, as long as I had some niche product/service to sell *and internet, I would survive.

I'm no special genius or anything...just an average Kiwi dick (just a bit weird) with a strong desire to save money. I hate working for 'the man', have no ambition of taking over the world, just have a passion for small business.

Think about what you are good at, or are interested in and make it into a profitable business.. it won't feel like work as your heart is invested in it.

You have had the only sound advice you need.I know you can't use it much, but as they said:

Blow your money and go home

This isn't a place for white men

    Krabi.

Enjoy 3 months, maybe do a diving course, so you don't just get wankered every day, then go home, get a job, save up money, design a plan then come back in 5 years. That's the best advice you're ever gonna get, so take it...
