If I'm passing somebody much older than me in the street I'll often smile and say "how's it going old pal", I do it more to make them feel comfortable and less intimidated by my bulk, I don't bother with younger guys and at times even toss them a menacing glance depending upon their demeanour.

I don't smile but nod My head and say hello, then chat away and then eventually bring up the subject of Teakdoor, ask them if they post on here, if they say no I then describe TD as a super friendly forum and the great posters they could meet on here.

I've even recommended Teakdoor to guys going on their first holiday to Thailand, telling them that's it's a great site full of helpful posters that will willingly impart their advice and wisdom in helping a two week stayer on his first holiday .

I say hello to everyone even the soi dogs, I also ask Thais what they've ate and where there going and tell them its cold or hot, nothing like a bit of idle chatter.

I even let the locals look in our shopping bags and tell them how much we spent at the supermarket.
