Could it be? Chang beer avec rice?
New ‘green “Chang" is not unlike the unpalatable beer (hops and rice) they serve on Chinese airlines.
Could it be they are using up rice a la YS?

I've tried it. Still has that Chang after taste. Singha and Leo are better for me.
It's a disgrace what they have done to Chang classic.
It was OK at 6 % but now they have offed it to 5.5 % something has happened taste wise plus its piss weak.
All Chang is Chang Classic now, they have pissed off Export and the other shit.
RIP Chang Classic 6 %. :sorry1:
i bet that still won't stop those who add ice
I don't like the sound of this.
Doesn't matter what Chang I drink, I suffer a bad headache the next day. I can't drink Leo, Archer or another few Thai beers. Singha and Heineken are the only beers made here that I can drink. I'm of to get some vodka and whiskey. 555
I believe that Beer Singha, the "original anchor" Thai beer, is taken much more frequently in overseas markets than it is here - since it's only one of two [Chang Export - different than Chang domestic] that is exported.
I've always wondered why they don't consolidate the two Chang beers into one - the much better quality Chang Export [real beer] - and domesticate the Chang market here......en lieu of the chemical/lau khao induced shit that Terry and others find so lovely.
This is an urban myth Jeff.
The reason some people suffered the hang over on Chang Classic was simply because it was 6%.
Many punters would not of known this.
Marry up that with many punters being dehydrated because of Thailand's heat and consuming a few too many Changs they felt it the next day.
That's where the Hangover set in.
^
Of course it is Jeff,
It's perpetuated by piss heads who consume a shit load of Chang Classic and then try and blame their god awful hangover on the chemicals in the beer.
It's the fookin volume they drink mate.
4 small ones was my limit, after that I was guaranteed to feel like shit the next day.
When i used to drink a lot of Chang never had a hangover just severe liver ache.
Only drink one bottle a day now and stick to me strong ciders instead.
I don't drink every day but when I do it's 4 dark beer Laos.
Fookin wonderful. :)
Jeff is probably on about the fact Chang is also known as lotto beer. Apparently no 2 bottles of Chang have the same alcohol content due to the fact it's made of rice. Some bottles of Chang have even been tested and shown 12% alcohol.
That's what some pissed up Aussie told me in a bar anyhow:)
Just keeping last few bottles of insipid Chang green for emergencies…
Today went to Tesco lite and purchased ˝ doz Red Horse from cooler (don’t sell by the case) plus a few Archa. Think Red Horse was 45baht a bottle..640ml/6%ALC. Works out maybe 40 baht a dozen more than Leo. Good stuff …Told my usual retailer for Chang to get some in…answer “no have, cannot” sigh!
Unfortunately we poor southerners never get a sniff Beer Lao.
Interestingly there is 711, Tesco, and 2 or 3 alcohol retailers/bars within 1km of a school..in fact ALL retailers are..Go figure?
Did someone say Chang is made with RICE??? ..no wonder it tastes like Chinese beer now.!
Budweiser has a lot of rice in it. It's cheaper than barley and waters down the flavor. Chang's drinkable only on the rocks IMO.
Smoking the opiated Thai sticks as well?:)Quote:

Drink a decent German, Belgian, or even Beer Laos Dark lager with 6.5% and above alcohol strength, and compare hangovers with yer Chang-chugging tramp mates in the morning..:)
Having made beer a couple dozen times, there's no chemical that will speed up fermentation. Temperature and maybe some crazy new yeast would though. If they're adding anything, it would be ethanol, preservatives or both.
Well I'm a lite weight drinker, weak as piss compared to the bad boys.
Like I've been drinking Chang Classic when it was 6.4% with guys who would have one big bottle to my one little bottle.
That's what I consider a shit load, Big bottles of Chang 6.4% would give a fookin hippopotamus a fookin hangover.
Some guys can consume masses amounts of piss, luckily I'm not one of them.
My body just shuts down.
Were where the bars on Samui in the resort of Lamai stocking their fridges from.
I has as quess that they were buying it from the big Tesco in bulk then selling over the bar counter. With a mark up.
Never ever saw a big Hgv brewery truck doing the deliveries to to the bar promenades.
